Can an actual failed train be incorporated into SimSig at all, as it happens all the time on the real railway !
Maybe an option could be allowed for a train behind to couple up and push to the next station or for a loco (or Thunderbird) to rescue the failure and carry on to its destination or the next point for a set change / cancellation of the train?
Just a thought for added realism, maybe its a bit awkward to do - I don't know - but thought its worth a think if its possible to do ?

This has been raised several times in the past & has even been put on the MANTIS wish list, but as yet there isn't a real way of doing it. I have thought about setting up train failures in my timetables & the closest idea I've come up with s far is to set up 'Decisions' on certain trains(in reality you should do to all trains, but if you have over 900 trains in the timetable that gets to be quite alot more work). In the Decisions say covering a month you would need to set all the trains to say 28 & in respect of that Decision they would run as booked. The other 'Decision' I'd set to 1 or 2 as the same train doesn't fail every day. But with regards to the 2nd Decision for example say for York north/south sim you could set it up so when the train arrives at York the driver declares the train(unit or loco hauled) a failure & requests assistance. You then set up some light engine movemenys from either the holding sdgs, yards or off sim such as Knottingley TMD or Leeds Neville Hill or Doncaster & then set up a rule whereby the rule say train 1z99 must not enter until 20 minutes after train 1E49(the failed train) has arrived at York.
I've thought of setting something like this up with my Coventry 1988 timetable whereby assisting locos could come from either Three Spires Colliery, Rugby or in from Nuneaton as if the loco came off Saltley. But so far I haven't done it yet.

Loving the feature of trains being cancelled. As of yet only with freight leading to light locos running back to bases without their wagons so could be done with passenger stock too?

Currently it's already possible for trains to (separately) incur a random delay and run with a loss of power. In the latter case, they presently enter the sim in the failed state and remain that way from then on.

Combining these features should permit a form of train failures-in-service without requiring additional LE movements to assist. That is, the train stops (not necessarily at a booked stop, either) with a delay reason indicating "mechanical trouble", then after a while it continues with the loss-of-power flag set.

Some phone calls could be associated with this event as well, eg. the driver notifies the signalbox of his difficulty, then that he needs protection and/or electrical isolation of the line in order to troubleshoot, and would then inform that he's ready to proceed but with reduced performance.

I'm almost sure I'm going mad, but I'm sure I remember in an early version of SwinDid that I received a phone call that a train service alteration was made by control and to alter the pattern accordingly.

Am I mad?
