I've noticed two issues with this location using the modern era layout which is; 1. The ACI doesn't seem to like stepping up to the next headcode and does so rather selectively, this is in complete opposition to Kings Cross which has no issues at all. 2. The ARS will route trains into the wrong platform even if the correct platform is available, it seems to like routing trains into whatever platform is free regardless of if it's the booked platform or not. I know ARS is not perfect but surely it can cope with something as simple as the Moorgate layout? Does anyone else have similar issues? Log in to reply |

The Moorgate auto working is prototypical and as per the manual "It operates on a first-come, first-served basis and will preferentially use platform 9, unless that platform is occupied or a route has been set from it."
Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick. Log in to reply |

When working Fin Pk, I always check the interposed TD before it gets to Moorgate. I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either. Log in to reply |

I have quite a bit of experience in King's Cross and can confirm what you are mentioning. I don't know the reason behind it, but you need to remember that ACI is there only to assist, but not to be relied on. Actually ACI elsewhere in the sim doesn't always step in as well, such as Hertford North and Welwyn, so its important to check yourself that the headcodes makes sense. For this purpose it is beneficial to learn the headcodes, that way you can instantly notice if a headcode has not been stepped in properly. Examples are if you see 2Jxx/2Kxx coming out of Moorgate and 2Bxx/2Gxx/2Vxx/2Fxx travelling towards King's Cross. These will also help you easily decide which way to route trains without having to consult the timetable every time (especially if a train is a Moorgate or Hertford Loop train). You can consult the King's Cross manual for a list of headcode meanings. Jan is correct - the Moorgate ARS will sometimes route trains into wrong platforms, particularly if you send ECS into the branch too soon and mess up the sequence (with the right sequence trains will go to the correct platform with ARS). My way of managing this is to make sure I only send ECS down Moorgate branch when it is booked to, which will sometimes require the train to be held at Alexander Palace or Finsbury Park. Make good use of the Up Slow 2 line for this purpose - you shouldn't have automatic working on either of these locations. Log in to reply |
