For the last week or 2 I've re-started work on a LTS 1994 timetable which I'd started not long after the sim had been released & subsequently stopped when there were a number of issues preventing me from completing the timetable. Now for this timetable apart from the 'seeded' trains which can either be of one type or another all other services are duplicated 5 times to cover the possibility of being worked by one of the 5 different classes of units that operated on that line. Those being Cl.302, Cl.305, Cl.308, Cl.310 or Cl.312. All those 5 different classes of unit are the exact same length, the only exception being the maximum speed of Cl.312 unit being 90mph as opposed to 75mph for all the other types. Unfortunately I don't have any unit diagrams for the period & when I covered the unit controllers desk at Liverpool Street RCO between 1990-1993 from time to time when there was a vacancy on there most of the Cl.312 units were working on the GE mainline, although at certain times of the day there were stock movements between Ilford T&RSMD - Rast Ham EMUD - Ilford T&RSMD usually via Gas factory Jn. I know some sim-siggers live on the LTS & my question to them is did they observe any specific workings that were soley worked by Cl.312 units. During 1994 I was Duty Shift Manager at Stratford ROC for Trainload Freight South East/Mainline Freight & I have several loco diagrams covering this period for the freight traffic which I remember quite distinctly. But t's the unit workings on the LTS which I'm struggling with. The platform numbers at Fenchurch Street & Shoeburyness are actually printed in the 1994 WTT as well as the platform numbers for trains reversing at Pitsea & Southend Central. Now apart from the services that ran overnight which are 4 car sets all the others during the peak & off peak are 8 car sets. That's because the WTT doesn't show any units splitting at Shoeburyness & or Fenchurch Street where they become 4 car sets & the other set takes up another working or returns to the CS. The passwenger timetable is actually quite intense. The Grays - Upminster-Grays & sometimes Ockendon service is a 4 car set throughout the day as well. Does anyone on Sim-Sig know of any workings on the LTS that were specific to Cl.312 units due to there higher speed or like I am producing any class of unit could cover anything as very few placesd if any had a line speed higher than 75mph? Obviously the HS1 line that runs through part of this sim wouldn't be used in 1994. But any help from users who lived, travelled or even transpotted over that route during the early 1990s maybe able to throw some light on this. Otherwise I'll continue to make the timetable up so any of the 5 different classes of units can work any service. Appreciate any help anyone can give. Log in to reply |

There were no exclusive workings. All the classes would work any services. The max line speed was, and still is 75mph so the higher speed of the 312's was not relevant. Log in to reply The following user said thank you: 58050 |

Right thanks for that Gonzo75, that was the basis I was writing the timetable under so every movement that enters the sim between Fenchurch Street & Shoeburyness has a decision against it so it could be formed of any one of the 5 different classes. Even with the actual unit diagrams it wouldn'rt be 100% accurate to say that the booked type of unit always worked that diagram. Based on that then I'll plod on with it. The freight side I'm more than familiar with it after spending 7 years dealing with the area including the occasional rip to Pig's Bay with a Cl.47/7(47702 or 47711) off Stratford depot conveying stock for storage etc, which is something I've also got to add into this timetable.

I think the ockendon workings were mostly older stock although again anything could change. I can still hear the guards bell and the traction motor hum from summer holidays with family in Southend and the mysterious branch and level crossing at shoeburyness (none of my family knew what it was for). The level crossings you mewntion in your post Joe is probably the line to Pig's Bay where during the 1990s redundant EMUs were sent there for storage. I remember this particularly well when I was DSM at Stratford ROC as the usual locos to go dfown there were 47702 & 47711 due to there ability to create higher brake pressure than the normal Cl.47s. Stratford TMD did alter the brake pressure on a few other locos from the EWAS pool such as 47526. These locos were primarily used on stock movements with barrier coaches & the higher brake pressure was a requirement when hauling redundant Southern Region EMU stock to Pig's Bay, which was accessible from Shoeburyness CSD.
