Afternoon all, Found my 1984/5 copy of Section CJ. Would there be any interest in having a timetable made up? I don't have the CWN or freight workings. Regards, Josh Log in to reply |

You'll needs a wole lot more than that fpr a 194-1985 timetable & it also will depend very much on what sim you are talking about. Section CJ cover the midland mainline from St. Pancras to Nottingham & Derby. As I'vr pretty much got the complete set of WTTs for thar line as part of my railwy career was spent on that routetraing as a driver. For staers the Derby sim or the West Hampstead sims are correct for 1984-1985. Not only would you need the Section CW freight WTT, but without an actual St. Pancras station working book you'd have an immense job platforming the trains & also working out what train terminated there & then what it's next working would be. I used a 1991 St, Pancras/King's Cross station working book for my 1991 timetable which also gave me the HST & unit diagrams & the subsequent next workings. Having just a WTT is such a small fraction of the info you need to write a BR era timetable for SimSig.Another thing you don't have is a Midland Lines trip notice which detail all the shunt pilot duties as well as the booked trp locos working MGR traffic as they don't appear in freight WTTs unless it is a booked WTT service, plus all the departmental trip locos which also don't appear in the WTT. The earliest station working book I've got for St. Pancras is for 1989 & not seen an earlier one even though I have over 40 trip notices ion my collection including a midland lines trip notices for 1984, 1985, 1986 & 1987. If it was as easy as just doing it from a WTT I'd have done myself for West Hampstead but due to the lack of documentation I would even contemplate doing it. Cambridge Street SD is missing from St. Pancras as well as some other sdgs along the route to Bedford. Derby sim can't be done either for the BR era as too much stuff is missing & the same goes for Nottingham on Trent sim. Just to add the layout at Bedford is wrong for that WTT as St John's was still the terminus for Bletchley services (with a different station and track layout) and the slow lines to Wellingborough hadn't been singled yet. Like pascal says there's a lot of overnight parcels workings including one that recesses a van at St Albans (not indicated in the WTT) and several movements at Luton. There's also at least one untinetabled van shunt at Bedford. "We don't stop camborne wednesdays" Log in to reply The following user said thank you: 58050 |

Yes Joe is right in what he says & I forgot all about Bedford St. Johns station was still the old terminus back then. Providi9ng you were looking at writing a timetable for the West Hampstead sim. In fact all of the sims created for SimSig don't really cover the BR era, but West Hampstead is the nearest. Between 1985 - 1988 I was on the footplate at St. Pancras & Bedford & know these vans shunts pretty well & the 02.04 newpapers was always in P6 with 10 vans & usually a Cl.45/1 or Cl.47/4. The WTT won't give you platform numbers unless it is one that covers the period from 1992 onwards as some WTTs in my vast collection do give platforms numbers. Furthermore you'd need a passenger train marshalling book to give you the correct formations of loco hauled passenger stock workings & an even rarer item to get hold of would be a similar BR publication giving details of parcel & newspaper trains. It all depends on how accurate you wish to make the timetable. No one is stopping you creating a ficticious timetable, but I don't do those Iwhen I write a timetable(usually for the BR era) then I try & make it as accurate as I can for the user. Even for freight train formations if I haven't worked or seen the train then I tend to use a BR freight train loads book which details the maximum weight each type of loco can pull over a booked route that that train is timetabled to run. That's why im my timetables only the speedlink services have a maximum length that the next marshalling yard can handle as some of the wagons are empty as opposed to being loaded, but block trains have different lengths in metres subject to the length limit of the route they are booked to take or the maximum tonnage the traction unit allocated to the service can pull.
