Afternoon all,

When attempting to shunt locomotives from Exeter SD station into West Yard, if I attempt to set the route from either E160 or E260 signals towards the LOS just up from Exeter St Thomas (marked "35LOS"), the simulation claims there is no route available, despite there being no signals in between. Is this prototypical to real life (in which case I'll add it to the manual), or a bug? I find it odd you can't shunt from 1 or 3 without reversing on the down (which I thought was banned anyway).

Sim Version is 5.1.1; loader 4.7

Thanks in advance.

I'm going to suggest that the sim is correct here.

Looking on the S-R-S Website for Exeter Stage 1B, it looks like there is only routes available for:
Signal 160 - P1
==========
Up Waterloo - Main Aspect
Up Waterloo - Position Light
Dn Waterloo - Main Aspect
Dn Waterloo - Position Light
Dn Main - Main Aspect

Signal 260 - P3
==========
Dn Waterloo - Main Aspect
Dn Waterloo - Position Light
Dn Main - Main Aspcet

Signal 60, so Platform 4 is the first platform which you can access the Up Main from.

The second point of shunting Platform 1 to 3, or even Platform 3 to 1 is typically done by going into New Yard and back out. I dont know how this was done historically or when there was run rounds involved with the former loco hulled stock for Waterloo.

I suspect that if a P1 to P3 shunt was needed, this would have been done via the Down Waterloo.

Just to point out, exeter is a mid 1980s installation, along with Westbury. By this time, many loco hulled trains had stopped, so not so much shunting needed, and, if I may speculate here, BR were just trying to save money by not providing more routes than needed.

p.s. this is a direct link to the signalling notice with the routes on for Exeter West End

The sim is correct. For some reason that isn't a viable route

On the 1980s Exeter timetable the loco hauled trains from Waterloo ran round in New Yard which required 3 gate openings - with another opening for the train to exit the sidings afterwards! P1 to P3 shunts ran down through Central and then reversed onto the down line before running through Central again and then into P3
