Container train identity? 29/07/2018 at 16:23 #110514

A couple of queries:

It states in the York Manual that container trains are *not* allowed via Boroughbridge Road due to clearance issues.

This leads me to the following questions:

1. How does one identify a container train? Armed with this knowledge I can look out for one and route it accordingly. Don’t want to demolish any bridges now do I?
2. As the answer to question 1 may be hidden in the ‘Train List’ description column, is there any way that I can widen the column, because although I have attempted to expand the column width, it keeps reverting to that which you can see in the screenshot. (York.PNG)

Regarding the 'description' column width, I have had the same issue in the Tyneside sim.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Bugsy

Please ignor the *.docx which was attached in error. It's only a 'Word' copy of the text above and I attached it by mistake.

Firstly they will always be class 4s. Secondly they would be booked via Northallerton Station specifically so ordinarily would be routed that way.

It all depends how the Timetable has been written. Some people will add a full consist in the description. Others will pop it in the train type
Rule of thumb would be to look at origin and destination and apply common sense.

Thanks for your quick response. I have mentally noted all of your points.

Any thoughts on my second question?

I haven't got a clue with that. There will be someone who can comment as and when they see this.

I think your screen grab is displaying the legacy train list, not the more modern layout. If you go into F3 and uncheck the Legacy Train List box on the Display tab you get a revised F2 display which you can modify if you are happy fiddling with a css file. You can play with it to display the description field if it is not showing (see below). You can resize the new F2 window by dragging a corner or edge to give you the width for the full column to display.

There is a lot more about the revised F2 display and the css file that drives it in this topic. The trainlist.css file should be in the same folder as your SimSigloader.exe file. Some way down the topic, Prof Jolly gives css code which hides all of the fields available. For each field you wish to show, you add // between the field name and the first curly bracket. For example if you wished to show the train length you would enable the column header by editing the text to show "td.len // { display:none;}" and the actual length by editing to "th.len // {display:none; }".

If you don't see the css file, the display doesn't list all of the required fields or you just find it a bit clunky, there is a user supplied version in the Downloads section which lists the available fields as per Prof Jolly and reverts things to a more traditional style of display nearer the legacy train list style.

Have fun.

Good grief! I've been blinded by science.

I've done as you suggested and unticked the 'Legacy Train List' option and when I re-opened the Train List, I can now see what I couldn't before. Pity that I couldn't find anything in the Wiki regarding the Train List, but perhaps I wasn't looking in the right place.

I'll certainly look at the thread that you highlighted.

Thanks for the tip.

Here and here, accessed from the main Wiki Menu page by selecting the link to "Function Keys*- F1, F2, F3 etc."

It's a case of me not knowing where to look.
I did skip through some of the Wiki pags, but obviously not the right ones.

Thanks
