Just a general query, I have no intention of writing a timetable but did want to have a look at them out of interest.

I've had a look online and on ebay for any Australian WTTs but there's very little to go on. For the UK, NR publish their timetables online and sites like real-time trains and open train times have maps and timetable information and eBay is a great source of historic timetables.

Are there any aussie equivelants or sources that can be suggested?

https://opendata.transport.nsw.gov.au/

IIRC at least one other state has an equivalent.

You can see historic WTTs (back to 1899!) at the NSW Archives in Kingston, Sydney. You can also ask around at this forum.
