As you may have noticed, Version 4.9 of the Loader is now available via Check For Updates. This has a quite large number of improvements, bug fixes, and new features, most of which are listed here.

Some of the main features are:
- Faster display of the simulation list when selecting a simulation (after an initial scan, so he 2nd Loader start onwards). If, for some reason, the list of simulations appears to be incomplete, pressing the new "Rescan" button will void the cache and iterate through your sims again.
- For non-TORR sims, a spent route (used but not cancelled) will now show a flashing white signal post. Panels have various ways of showing this, so this is a one-size-fits-all solution. Note: sims need to be updated to take advantage of this feature.
- Splitting overlap issues on Strathfield have been fixed
- You can now interpose and cancel directly into queue berths (in most cases)
- When two sims were chained, and a train was supposed to ACI on the second simulation after crossing from the first, a bug prevented this from happening but has now been fixed.

Strathfield will be ready in a couple of days and fixes for a few other sims are being worked on.

Thanks for the ongoing support.

Thanks for the new loader v4.9.

After looking a the list and seeing this below, I was kind of happy in the hope that trains would enter ontime.
0021794: [Timetabling] Train entry and Shunt moves (clive) - resolved.

Sadly they seem to be still a 1min delay from the timetable entry for my example 2N94 which enters at 00:04:00 instead enters at 00:05:01. I'm not 100% sure if this is what was fix above mentioned. Any ideas? I'm starting fresh sims instead of saved ones.

21794 was unrelated to that issue.

13132 is the issue in question which is still under investigation

Can I ask a daft question, as I have a lot of saved sims , what are the likely compatibility issues that I could come across. Or should I just start new ones?

Saves should be fine. But if you have a problem with one, let us know.

Will do. I am going to start a few again, some I haven't used for a while. I need to play one at a time from start to finish. Cheers

It's sim updates that are more likely to cause problems with saved games.

If I see an update I tend to start a new one. While I am on, are there any plans to update any of the Mac Sims. Glasgow to Edinburgh is now all electric. Wires are up to Dunblane and Alloa / Double line working to Dyce, and Borders line. Cheers and thanks for all the excellent work you all do. I would be lost without Sim Sig. Iain

The 'EGIP' era in Central Scotland includes the new layout at Stirling and the new electrification; I don't know if any timetables have been written for that era yet though.

Yip I passed there today .New signals etc. Timetables and rolling stock much changed. Passengers still not happy. Lots of staff shortages and now no direct train from Dunblane to Polmont , Linlithgow.

I appreciate the effort and I see some speedup, but unfortunately it's still not superfast - previously, with a warm file system cache populating the full list of sims took around 8 s, whereas with the cached list it now still takes around 5 s.

I'm seeing a significant improvement on linux, it previously took a very long time to scan through all the sim files.

When I go to start a new simulation, there are no sims shown and a message box pops up with "I/O error 103". The same happens if I click on Rescan manually.

I had the same problem. Turned out my simulations and timetables were all in my personal documents file (which wasn't on C:\Users\me\Documents\Simsig which would have been the default, because my docs file was redirected to another folder on my D drive).

I uninstalled, and reinstalled v4.6.9 loader again and then moved the entire SimSig folder from my personal docs folder (all of which was still there, even after uninstallation) over to C:\Users\Public\Documents\SimSig instead, and then relaunched the launcher, told v4.6.9 to use the COMMON DOCUMENTS shortcut from the 'Use Folders' widget, moved it to the top, deselected my personal folder, then checked I could seem sims (attempted start, but didn't actually launch one - just checked I could see them listed).

Then I did the update to v4.9, and all was well that time.

I/O Error 103 I would therefore assume is a permissions error, and is related to the launcher being able to write to the personal docs folder by default.

Hope this works for you. It is entirely possible you may be able to skip the rollback to 4.6.9, by just moving your files to the Public document, resetting the folders, and trying to launch again...

Do let me know if this works!
Cheers

Yes, I have got it working now. I also had all my simulations saved in a non-default directory which seems to be the cause of the problem.

Having played around a bit the issue seems to be the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Simsig directory which is the default location. If this directory does not exist it comes up with the IO error 103. If I create the directory manually it works normally (and creates a simulations.xml file with all the installed sims).

I've also got everything SimSig in a bespoke location. I remember many moons ago just after the loader was first released I had to create the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Simsig directory manually as the loader needed a common.cfg file which had to live in that location. That file is still there and was last modified today when I closed down the SimSig session I had been running, I've now got the xml file as well which I can't remember seeing before. Is that file is part of the speeded up process for listing the sims available on the machine when starting a new sim?

Regarding signal stems flashing when the route needs replacing. I have noticed this applies on colour lights but not semaphores. I can understand the reasoning but it does provide a weird situation where some signals on a panel have this feature and others dont

It is down the the Developer to provide this functionality with semaphores. The sims I am working at the moment have it and Peak Forest is being "retro fitted" prior to a forthcoming update
