Hi,

Please could someone explain to me why some express services from Bridgend are pathed via Leckwith / Ninian Park / Penarth, instead of just on the main line?

e.g. http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/C54187/2019/01/01/advanced

Seems a funny sort of way to go...

Thanks!
Jamie

It's to retain driver's route knowledge of the diversion, should they ever need to be sent that way.

EDIT TO ADD: Looking at what happened on the rest of the day, it looks like part of Cardiff Central was shut for engineering works, forcing use of the diversion. Howeverm GWR and TfW (formerly ATW) run a few trains that way a day in the early morning/late evening for the reason given above.
