While playing the Edinburgh/North East Scotland session recently I noticed two interesting working I hadn't heard of before which I guess were IC services?

1E28 0940 Glasgow Queen Street to Scarborough
1M94 0840 Edinburgh to Blackpool North

Does anyone know what the stopping pattern was for these two services and if there were return workings at all?

Also which will help but did Blackpool North/Scarborough see any other IC services and lastly with regards to the Manchester/Liverpool to Glasgow/Edinburgh services were they classed as IC or Regional Railways services?

Any help would be great

The Scarborough service did have a back working, not sure of times or headcodes.

They also attempted extending it to Hull via the coast, but then it was too late to get back.

What year?

Blackpool used to have regular IC west Coast workings to/from Euston.

Scarborough was served by regional railways services.

In. The 1991 WTT there's a Stockport to Glasgow working which is IC and the back working runs to Paddington I think. Theres no direct Manchester to Glasgow but if there was in a similar year it would have been RR.

During Glasgow/EdinBurgh holiday weeks services ran to both Scarborough and Blackpool and many of these workings date back to the early post war years.Shown in 1953 Wtt.

I/C carried on with these two services well into the 80s with the Blackpool also running during Blackpool Illuminations period too.

The Scarborough ran via the East coast calling at Dunbar Newcastle and Darlington with a York reversal. The return working used to dep Scarborough mid morning. In steam days odd services used the Gilling line which bypassed York until it was closed.

The only thing I can recall about the Blackpool was during steam days it used to go around the houses at Preston using thr Farringdon curves ,passing through Preston twice within 30 mins.

Hi,

My findings are that the outward stops are Dunbar,Berwick ,Alnmouth Newcastle,Durham, Darlington and York.Scarborough arr mid afternoon.

The return called used the same stopping pattern in reverse however I cannot find any accurate timings for this.

As a footnote the stopping pattern is the result of combining the stops from two previous services which ran for many ,many years being a Glasgow -York followed 20mins later by the Glasgow - Scarborough.

That's great thank you, I don't suppose it's too much to ask what the stops were on the Glasgow to Blackpool service?
