Greetings all,

From what I hear there are some really good improvements all round coming for GWR in December and I like what I have heard. Pity we won't be able to do a SwinDid TT for the December changes but Exeter and Westbury ones will be doable. I hope that we will get an updated layout for SwinDid (as per TVSC) even if it is on the conflict of interest list.

Quite a few changes all round. Some minor TT revisions to my local route (Severn Beach - Bristol Temple Meads), Barnstaple timetable completely recast...... let us hope it works IRL.

HTIOI,
Dave

The railforums topic started last April and there is a fair bit of information as you go through the pages.

Platform Lengths Didcot RL platforms (signals moved to allow 12 car standage); BiDi signalling Didcot - Oxford (which is timetabled to be used, particulate between Didcot and Didcot North).

EMU speed limit at Steventon.

2 track Swindon - Kemble; which is finally take full advantage of from December.

Tweaks to aspect sequences through Swindon station.

Well they royally 'messed up' Manchester last year, and did the same to Birmingham New St this year... I wish it could be third time lucky, but I'm not hopeful.

While I'm sure train planning tools have gotten better over the years, certainly during the 2000s they were pretty awful - woefully optimistic in fact. They just lacked enough detail to say "X can't pass Y until N time later" when those restrictions were signalling-based (eg overlap release). Glasgow Central's new timetable looked good... until they got the TRE simulator and realised the simulator was way more realistic than the "carefully" planned timetable. Turned out the planning tool didn't actually feature acceleration: 0 to 40mph in a split second? Great! Sigh.

Sadly the tools currently in use are still pretty archaic. There's some new tools which have been released in the last couple of years, but only some TOCs have started using them (GTR being one of the most advanced surprisingly).
