My boss has just asked me a question about the train he caught last night.

It was an EMU from Ely to Cambridge. It departed at about 22:15 from platform 2 and terminated at Cambridge, in platform 5. He says it was a Great Northern train but couldn't tell me the type. But he's certain it was an EMU. Platform 5 would be unusual for that.

There's no such train on Realtime Trains or Open Train Times. It's not 1K95, which he says he saw on platform 3. It sounds like 1T69, except that's shown as planned cancelled throughout.

So does anyone have any ideas?

Possibly http://www.charlwoodhouse.co.uk/rail/liverail/train/16124577/25/07/19 - looks like it may have been formed by one of the Stadler units

But then there was that much disruption with the heat it have been almost anything

1K95 managed to lose 7 minutes between Ely and Cambridge, which does suggest it was losing time behind something else. Does he know if his train left before 1K95?

If only OTT's maps had a "rewind" function! Even on a good day, a good proportion of the passenger running about aren't known to OTT - shown in yellow and without a link.

Yes, it did.

With very significant disruption as experienced the past few days on the East Coast; open data feeds and even internal industry systems aren't great at keeping up with what did or did not run. TDA (delay attributors) may have cancelled the train throughout; but it infact ran as far as Cambridge as your colleague experienced. Or it could have been a completely ad-hoc move with displaced stock and crew.

Have the 755s entered service yet?

It knows about them (just look up the schedule) but the linking from a TD in a berth to an appropriate schedule is the issue Peter has, from what he's told me.

Thinking about it, it's quite remarkable that the railway's own systems (TRUST?) manage to match train descriptions to schedules pretty much perfectly to generate running information. Presumably those systems have a list of TD berths associated with a given location?

I have replayed what happened from the TD feed, the train was 1G69, a reinstated version of 1T69 from Kings Lynn to Cambridge (terminating in platform 6 rather than 5). This train never made its way into TRUST or Darwin.
