What if a permissible speed restriction board is missing?

Presumably the driver will report this to the signaller?

What should the signaller do?

I would imagine:

Inform Ops Control,
Possibly tell the driver of each train which will travel over the restriction about the irregularity? (Possibly only if there is a reduction in permissible speed?)

The PSR boards are only there as reminders, drivers should know the speed limit, and the locations at which it changes as part of route knowledge.

Driver will report to Signaller; Signaller will report to Ops Control. Ops Control will dispatch staff to erect a new board. If step 3 can’t be done immediately a notice may be published in the late notices; but there’s no requirement to caution.

Yeah, that's what made me wonder in the first place, thanks.

There's a few places on routes I sign where no speed board is provided at all (and hasn't been for quite some time), or where we still use the cutout variety and one of the numbers has fallen off! As JamesN says, route knowledge comes into it here - and for us, the routes they are one tend to be ones we go over very frequently.
There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

Same here on my patch, for example the cross over from the Down Windsor fast to Down Windsor and the Up Windsor that crosses over with it next to it at Nine Elms Junction have no speed boards at all but they're 45mph just part of our Route Knowledge.
