I've got a question about how trains are signalled between Aston SCC and Lichfield TV. In the sim, you control both boxes, so it doesn't really matter, you can signal trains into platform 3 at Lichfield TV station any way you like. But what about in real life. Only, I notice that there is a reduced overlap for TV6 signal. My question is, how does the Aston signaller know whether or not they can use the full overlap? I notice in this picture of the real location: https://photos.signalling.org/picture?/11753/category/1145-aston Track circuits beyond TV6 are indicated on Aston's panel, so that's perhaps a clue that a train is proceeding over the junction right now and the reduced overlap will need to be used right now. But can Aston really set the route with the full speed overlap extending over the junction without consulting with Lichfield TV? Because, how is the Aston signaller to know whether the Lichfield signaller is about need to set a route over the junction? I would have expected some kind of slotting arrangement, but there doesn't seem to be any, so can anyone enlighten me on what is done? Log in to reply |

There is a slot - as I understand it, Aston can set the route with a reduced overlap at any time, but requires the slot from T.V. Junction to set the route with the full overlap. I assume that the 'acceptance' indication under 165 signal (which is shown on the panel as slotted) shows the state of the slot.

If I had to guess, I’d say that it’s not routinely requested but rather that T.V. Junction clears the slot for approaching trains just as he would it it was one of his own signals. Track circuit indications are shown for at least a couple of signal sections in rear. https://www.flickr.com/photos/55140787@N08/5115230957 Do you know whether the slot’s only generally given for through trains, or is the signalman expected to get out of his chair for everything to give it a clear run in?
