Fictional LH TT Arriving ECS Does Not Change Headcode, Loco's Will Not Attach 14/05/2020 at 11:40 #126784

Running the fictional loco-Hauled TT recently made available for Lime St loader version, I've noticed some ECS workings do not change headcode to the Cl.1 services they form, and as a consequence their booked loco's do not attach. I'm up to 0606 so far and these have been my findings:-

1. 5A02 detached loco 0E03 on arrival but did not become 1A02, booked loco 0A02 looking for 1A02 to attach to therefore did not attach. Remedy - change 0A02 to attach to 5A02, re-order 5A02 activities to attach loco then become 1A02 and have 0A02 (already in platform waiting to attach) shunt forward to make the attachment.

2. 5E03/0E03 worked as planned without any involvement from me.

3. 5L03 behaving as 5A02, detached loco 0E01 on arrival as booked but did not become 1L03. 0L03 approaching from Edge Hill looking for 1L03 to attach to. I've attached a save.

One other observation, when viewing 0L03 in 'Show Timetable' window, it shows 1L03 as arriving at 0616 when 1L03 actually departs at 0616.

Regards,

Phil.

Any errors in the TT were present in the originaly TT, All we did was force the merge through to allow the TT to be used with the Loader version of the sim
I suspect that because 5A02 comes in as a diesel, and a divide front is used, the coaches techincally have a diesel power type still assigned to them. 1A02 however only had an overhead AC as its power type and so the sim won't allow the next working to happen without the AC loco first having attached.

If I remember rightly, I set the activities up this way:

1A00 arrives. DF: 0C00 N: 1B00 J: 0B00

1B00 has activity J: 0B00

0B00 has activity J: 1B00

It was the first TT I published; I think the idea was to provide as much visibility as possible on which loco was required to join.

It worked on the original release. I can only assume a core code change or other conversion issue broke it, and to be fair it was a bad way of writing the TT anyway.

I'll dig it out and repair it in the next couple of days.

I have run this TT in the .exe version of the sim and didn't have any issues, that's why I thought it strange when things didn't work as they should with this TT in the loader version. It did cross my mind that there must be a reason it was written with trains changing reporting number before attaching the outbound loco, but I didn't consider the traction type being an issue.

Thank you for getting on the case so quickly to make alterations, I'll look forward to the updated version as this this is my favourite Lime St TT with all the loco changes making it much more interesting than with just units in and out. And it's how I remember it from way back when.

Regards,

Phil.

In case it is of use now or for others reading later, here is my test timetable for loco hauled.

What we do have now in core code is one-stop timetabling so you can have free stock in platform, which retains the visibility to aid interpose:

1A00 DR:5B00 N:0A00
5B00 J:0B00
0B00 J:5B00 N:1B00

Where 5B00 is say 'Stock 6' and unpowered.

As a cautionary note, one stop timetables are flaky under ACI, see Mantis 30174.

Going off-piste a bit, the configuration of that sort of detach and join move is critical for sims running ARS/ACI. The only detach moves that ARS recognises are those which detach at the rear. This drives the ACI that puts the right TDs (headcodes) into the platform berths. Then without the right platform TDs, ARS will not signal the joining loco in and the signaller has to intervene (subject to the difficulties Bill has reported on Mantis).

Depending on the circumstances you can reverse the order and do a join then split (like the pilot remaining coupled to a sleeper to supply hotel power until the main loco has joined). This would then look like:

5A00 J 0A00 DR 1A00 N 0A00-1

My way of doing it :-

1A00 arrives J: 0B00

0B00 J:1A00 DR:0A00 N:1B00

No need for any unpowered stocktypes.

And I had always believed that the F/R were dependent on the direction of travel of the train carrying the actions rather than any train created by the actions. This would need

0B00 J 1A00 DF 0A00 N 1B00

This would upset ARS/ACI.

You live and learn.

Version 2.0 now available to download.

This corrects all of the activity issues. I haven't tested it, but as there didn't appear to be any issues with the original on the .exe and the analyser gives it a clean bill of health, it should be fine. As ever, feel free to report any issues below.
