Were you having issues with it? What happened when you played in demo mode before buying?

I have run it on demo a few times with a mind to purchasing it .. so far I have stepped back. It is quite simple really.

Its impossible to play the entire area with one person so isn't what I expected when i paid for the full version. Unfortunately its not for me after comparing it to the real thing.

But you could have found that out with the demo surely? I mean, I'm not having a go, but I mean, if you bought a book and after a couple of chapters decided you weren't really enjoying it, would you expect to be able to walk back into WH Smiths and get a refund? I mean I suppose you could argue that with a physical object like that you've reduced its resale value by bending it and so on, and I guess that is true, but SimSig (which has a relatively niche market anyway) is put in a pretty difficult position if it's going to allow people a few days in which they can play with their products and then get a full refund. If I was minded to, I could surely abuse that to play through a full timetable essentially for free. So SimSig lets you try a demo version instead, I think that's pretty fair, what else can you really do in SimSig's shoes? I can't walk out of a football game and get a refund if my team goes a goal down after 2 minutes and I decide I can't really be bothered with this anymore. Just because you have some buyer's remorse and you're not enjoying what you've bought, doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it or you can reasonably expect to be given money back.

Anyway, I can't talk you into enjoying something that's not for you and I mean, an IECC style interface is really not on the same level as NX, I'd choose a go on the real thing any day of the week as well. But compromises have to be made if you're playing in your living room, and SimSig is a really good simulation of IECC classic in terms of the way it looks and it's even closer to IECC scalable in terms of operation, because you can actually right click and do a lot of stuff with dropdown menus and an off-the-shelf mouse and keyboard in more modern versions of the IECC software.

But as for being impossible to play solo, I don't really get it? You will probably not find a person who hates ARS more than me in real life. I wish it didn't exist. I wish these software types would just stop taking jobs away from us normal folk - or stop extracting all of the joy and fun out of them. You know, if I wanna signal trains, I wanna signal trains. If I wanna drive a train, I wanna drive a train. If I wanna drive a car, I wanna drive a car. If I wanna fly a plane, I wanna fly a plane. If I'd wanted to program a computer, I would've gone into programming wouldn't I...?

But in the game, what's stopping you using it? You can use the ARS to literally control how much of the sim you want to operate. You can literally take control of small individual areas. What I did was to turn all the ARS subareas off on panel 1A for an hour, then switch them all back on and turn them all of on panel 1B for an hour and so on and so on and so on. You can use the ARS to simulate your colleagues. They're a tiny bit incompetent at times, but in many real life signal boxes, people do help their colleagues out on adjacent panels, so that's fine. The only thing I would DEFINITELY recommend, is do turn off point normalisation alarms if you wanna play Three Bridges solo. I genuinely don't see the problem, you can choose how much of the sim you want to operate by letting 'the computer' as we would have said in the PlayStation generation, do the rest. And it actually does very well you don't need to look after it very much at all, there are a couple of things to watch out for, but that's alright, it's just a small extra dimension.

Now personally, and this just goes for me, I was SO SO looking forward to Three Bridges ASC. Panels 5 + 6 are available as the Brighton sim and panel 7 as the Horsham sim (along with Dorking SB) and we've all been patiently (or not so patiently in some notable cases) looking forward to the rest of them making their appearance at some stage, so the release of Three Bridges ASC was fantastic news for me, because I'm very interested in the area. I like the fact that all of the panels are there, because it does add variety. However, subjectively, personally, I actually do think the sim is that little bit too big. There are EIGHT panels in total, so playing it the way I do means you don't really get to feel like you've mastered a panel, you just don't get long enough on any individual panel even if you play through an entire timetable. You'd have to keep going back again and again, I'd like fewer panels, I think. It is also a monster, you do want to be able to keep a general overview of everything, but it's so big and loading and saving takes a long time and scrolling can be a bit slow because it's just so big, that I actually do think I would have enjoyed it more if it had been split and appeared separately, as was probably once the plan. I think I would indeed have liked that more. That's just personal taste. I tried leaving the ARS on at one point and playing SSM, but it was just too big and I didn't really get anything out of that. So for me, I would probably give it 8/10, whereas something a little bit smaller like Lime Street to Runcorn gets a solid 9½. But the idea that it can't be played by one player is something I just don't get??

Oh, not to mention you can slow down - and stop! - time in SimSig, which is a feature that I believe Network Rail decided not to specify even for the ROCs

ARS doesn't take jobs away from people. When workstations are assessed, the workload is calculated based on ARS not being available in case it fails etc.

ARS is only like having ABS, traction control, hill start assist and a satnav in car. You still have to drive it and make calls on whether to stop at a roundabout or a junction, the tech just makes life easier.

Why not join one of the fairly frequently offered multiplayer games? This gives the chance to only operate one panel whilst others control the rest.

On a separate point, do you believe a single professional Signaller, no matter how experienced, could work the entire signalling centre on his or her own?

I'm still waiting for someone who has bought before they tried, to tell us why. Was the fact that you could do that not clear, or did they not read it properly?
It seems to be a regular occurrence so there must be a reason.

This has to be a joke surely? You really expected to run TB to Brighton and branches on your own! The sim manuals are very handy before spending money...
I can manage from the fringes with VC & LB to HHE with ARS for Preston Park & Brighton (keeping an eye on it though).

I have a suggestion. I had been intending to purchase Three Bridges, but had not. If SimSig will allow the transfer of the licence to my licence manager, I will send a cheque for, let's say, 80% of the purchase price of £ 35.00 to xfileswilly. And then, it's all done.

Thing is outside multiplayer, do you ONLY want to play the weekday busy timetables?

If not, that's what my Sunday TT I uploaded is for, a real timetable based on the engineering work that went on around Redhill, and Three Bridges - Brighton, it massively reduces the workload, I could play this myself with just Brighton on ARS.

This is what I'm doing and it's not that difficult for a single player. I'd like to know what actually disappointed xfileswilly. Doubt that we'll ever find out.

Wow..... Personally for me one of the best sims yet. I have travelled up and down this line for 30+ years and think this sim is so highly detailed. I love playing the sim by myself. You can control what you like. I also like playing as a multi player taking on various panels.
I have absolutely nothing to do with the railway either so have gone in completely blind. I follow the rules and follow the table.
Similarly you could say if you joint at 3 rugbys together you would also have a similar size sim.
Would now like to see them do the arun valley line and the west coastway route.
