Go non-stop through next station - or not?? 17/06/2020 at 14:22 #127639

I have a situation where I now have a choice of either sending a train non-stop through Peterborough when it’s timetabled to stop at platform 2, or moving the train currently standing in the platform by abandoning its timetable and reinstating it once its back in the platform.
Both are ‘evils’ but which is the lesser of the 2?

I have noted that I made the mistake of sending an early train from the Yard Reverse signal into platform 2 when I should have held it back.

I could just go back to an earlier save but don’t really want to do that.

What would you do?

not enough info here.

is P3 not available anytime soon?
how long will you need to wait for the occupying train to clear the platform?
is the occupying train in service/ECS/freight?
is the waiting train in service/ECS/freight?
is the arriving train terminating, so could it use a different platform

The question was really just a general one regarding which would be the best option of the two that I mentioned and could apply to any sim. The situation that I am about to described was brought about by my failure to sufficiently study the various trains’ timetables. As I said, I should probably have held it back. I’ve since re-run the sim from the 06:00 save and found that this is what I should have done.

Anyway, I have given you more information as you requested:

1R25 is occupying platform 2 and is booked to depart at 06:47. 1E48 is approaching Peterborough from the north and is due to arrive at platform 2 at 06:09 (4 minutes early).
I can’t divert 1E48 to platform 3 because that is also occupied, by 1B13, due to depart at 06:27.

Attached is a saved game at 06:00 in which you can see the situation developing.

I've just loaded that save and there's no such service as 1R25 indeed when the save loads up there is nothing using that headcode in the timetable or in Platform 2 so not sure why there's a issue?

There is a lot of sticky notes though!

Have you played it through?
You should see 5B25 waiting at the Yard Reverse signal. It is bound for platform 2 where it forms 1R52.

In answer to the situation idve shunted 1R25 to make way for 1E48 based on that situation. It's difficult to give a generic answer.

That's what I ended up doing anyway. I suppose that's better than making 1E48 run straight through and leaving passengers to wait until the next departure.

Okay I can see 5B25 waiting at the yard exit signal however the timetable clearly states that:

Peterborough Yard Reverse: 05:56/05:56
DF: 0T03
N: 5B25

The second 5B25 then arrives at 06:24 in Platform 2 and forms 1B25 06:47 to Kings Cross.

As 1E48 is booked to use Platform 2 between 06:13 and 06:18 while 5B25 is booked top arrive at 06:24, the answer is simple - 5B25 should be held at P86 signal and 1E48 given priority, there's no need to shunt 5B25 at all.

Regardless of the fact that 1E48 is running early or not, the fact remains that it is the next booked service on that platform so unless there's a reason for it not to call at Peterborough then it should by right be given priority if you intend on regulating the service properly.

Note, there isn't any service in the timetable with a 1R so please in future to make it easier to help please ensure you have the correct headcodes.

Oh yes. Sorry that I misled you and wasted your time. Won't happen again cos I'm going to be more careful in future and read the timetables more carefully.
