Running a server and client from the same account 02/07/2020 at 10:40 #128780

I have been trying to run a server and a client using the same account. I have a virtual machine running on my home server which has the SimSig server and then the client runs on my PC. I have started the server and I can connect successfully, however I can't set routes or click headcodes to view the timetable, it works perfectly for other clients from different accounts. The reason i want to do this is because I just want to receive calls relating to the panel I am controlling as there aren't enough of us to have a 'SSM'. Any ideas?

If a client has taken control of a workstation, all calls on that workstation should go to that client. Calls for uncovered panels go to the host. I'm not sure why you need a separate client instance of the simulation for yourself?

Edit to add: in any case, can't you run both instances on the same machine and connect to yourself?

If you're using a payware sim, you can't run it on two machines at the same time unless you own two licences.

Corrected for you. There are plans in the pipeline to do with 2 machines on the same IP and dynamic licenses, but its not currently implemented

Why do you want a VM ??? You only need to set up a server on your main machine then connect internally as a client. As Steamer said the server will not get any other client calls for connected clients, only the ones for panels that have no client covering them, which if I read correctly is all you want to do.

I will have to do more testing but it looked like I would receive calls from services not on my panel even though the other players had set their workstation allocation correctly.

The only time that a host would receive phone calls from panels that a client is operating is when the phone has being ringing for a prolonged period (something like 2 mins), the hosts phone will also ring. If your clients are working the stations correctly, then there should be no phone calls to you as the host except for any panel which is not taken
