Loader version 5.3 is now available via the check for updates feature.

Major changes

- Locked licenses should now correctly work offline.
- Waking a computer up from hibernation should now contact the license server before timing out for an expired license. (If it can't contact the server it will create a save file wokeup.ssg) .
- If a dynamic license is lost a lostlicense.ssg file will be created.
- The clock flickering experienced by some users should be fixed.
- CSS for the Train list, Simplifier, and Show Timetable Popup are now user customisable via the Options menu (F3) CSS options are no longer stored in separate files.

Specifically on the CSS front can I draw members attention to these two wiki pages:

Where do I edit the CSS?

What fields can I edit?

Can we please get a dumped HTML of the timetable popup? It is no longer possible to Right Click - View Source in that window and the HTML has changed quite a bit, but I can't tell how.

For what I'm doing, just the classes/ids from the wiki are not enough, I need to know exactly what elements are present, and how they are nested.

I'd like to take a moment to inject some positivity. A massive thankyou for this new CSS capability. I've now done some jiggery pokery and made the timetable popup 110% more user friendly (for me as its personalised) by being able to define everything myself. It's also much better than the old popup we had on V4 and while we're only on day 1, its made regulating/info gathering so much easier when I've been running West Hampstead this evening.

If I can add a suggestion with the simplifier, is it possible to edit the platform numbers only? I've been able to format the activities and TD, but would like the platform numbers bold as well so they stand out.

Add this: td.plat{}

Then put what you like in the brackets.

E.g td.plat{color:red;}
Makes the platform numbers red.

The only way I discovered this was by taking it from the show timetable screen.

I was just fiddling with that:
td.depart{color:red;font-size;16pt;font-weight:bold}
td.arrive{color:red;font-size;16pt;font-weight:bold}

pass would be td.pass{}

Dont ask how I found that it was arrive, that was just luck!

I am trying to get the trains that pass to have their row highlighted. That seems to be more tricky.

Can confirm they're working for me.

I know there was a bit of an assumption (possibly a correct one) that most people will never need this, but for me it's an important feature and I'm grateful to those involved (Geoff presumably) for the quick fix.

As soon as I finish Manchester East I think it might be time to part with some cash and get the two new releases.

For the Show Timetable window:
tr.locpass{}
tr.locstop{}
Exactly one of these two is applied to each row.

Unfortunately that one slipped through the net before 5.0 was released - the law of programming: you fix something in one place and it affects something else.

Thank you, is there a way to achieve this on the simplifier?

Something small I noticed. If you run a second copy of a payware sim on the same computer, while selecting the sim, it shows a green light with a blue triangle beside it and, when selected, the note that a another copy is running but you can still start it. However, if I tick the “Only show installed and owned/free simulations” checkbox, that sim disappears from the list. I expected it to still be in the list, given that I am able to run it in full mode.

My first response was to say that was a reasonable request, since there are - I assume - more things there than are documented.

But then I remembered a principle I've worked with for years: stick to what's documented as valid. The documentation should be viewed as a contract between you and Geoff. If you do what's in the contract, Geoff promises it will work and will fix it (eventually) if it doesn't. But in return you don't use things that aren't documented because they can change or disappear without warning.

If you start using stuff that isn't in the documentation and Geoff needs to change it for some good reason, you end up with your stuff being broken and you being unhappy. I've had too many customers complain when that happens even though they were warned not to do it; I don't want you to fall into that trap. One phrase I really hate hearing is "but it worked when I tried it before". I know it's annoying when you can't get something done, but I suggest you ask for what you want to do and give Geoff time to decide the best way to do it officially.

That's what I'm asking for though. There's really no way to avoid the weeds on this. When it's to the point of... "apply this style to the 4th row"... but you have no way of actually knowing that the row you want to target is the 4th row. The underlying HTML structure really is the "contract" of CSS.

Plus having the HTML allows you to load it in an actual browser which provides tooling for developing CSS.

This would be like... the difference between trying to right a valid timetable on paper vs. using the SimSig editor. There is all kinds of validation the computer can do for you - but it has to know what it's working with!

Geoff - Sim appears to crash if you have the sim on Fast (Pressed F for the 5 min burst - you get an exception error which is Fatal. This happened on Chester using the 2019 TT. No issue at normal speeds

Unrelated, but I've notice this new enhancement - autosave when the (in this case) laptop goes to sleep.

Nice touch!! :-)

When I open up the F4 timetable list it now shows the number of trains handled and the total trains in the timetable at its default size.

Quite a while ago now an update meant that these were not visible at the default size of the F4 timetable list and, since then, I've been resizing it vertically at the start of every game.

I've just noticed that, as I say, that's no longer necessary. I don't know if this was a conscious, deliberate fix or if it's a happy side-effect, but I'm grateful for it

That sounds like an encoding issue. I bet the quotes are "smart" quotes and not actual (ascii) single quotes.

Just like to ask the admin that deleted my post earlier in this thread, without any pm or posting here, where I breached the forum rules of conduct?

The feature itself is indeed appreciated (plus the fact that it now seems to be able to successfully refresh the license after waking up, so the sim simply keeps running), tough the dialogue box itself is starting to get somewhat annoying - I'm starting to long for an "Thanks, don't show again and just silently save it in the background" check box there.

Another niggle... when you've selected your sim and timetable, the timetable description is displayed. You can select the text, and right-click to select Copy... but it doesn't get into the clipboard on my W10 machine!

(This I noticed whilst re-importing the correct version of my TT into the downloads section)

Thanks

So, I've found a bug in the timetable popup.

The HTML sent to the embedded browser is actually sent/loaded 4 times with progressively more filled in content. I suspect this is part of why there is a noticeable delay in the popup loading... the embedded IE actually reparses/rerenders the content each time.
