Obviously the logical next question, following on from my previous thread (I thought I'd start a new thread as there were some interesting discussions taking place there focusing on Yoker and I didn't want it all to get muddled): how is the fringe between Banavie and Fort William handled?

I understand it's RETB from Spean Bridge to Fort William's FW12 and it's easy to imagine that a very similar system to the one at Yoker applies, with Banavie needing a release from Fort William (presumably again communication is by block bell) before a token can be issued, but presumably the token is also surrendered to Banavie? I wonder where that's done and, that being the case, who it is who sends out of section to whom! Must be a bit of a unique setup I suppose.

What about the up direction? Cause the section signal's under the control of Fort William and you think well that's nothing new, Fort William offers the train, gets it accepted, clears its signals, that's just basic signalling isn't it? But there's an additional layer of getting the token issued to the driver by the box in advance.

(I know I'm leaving out the Mallaig branch, any info will be gratefully received)

I believe that the tokens are retained until / taken at Fort William station.

The delay to a following train (if ever there was one) would be minimal.
