As platform 1 has 4 TD berths and 5H71 splits in 3, this very useful message is untrue ! If this is how it worked in real life, a note in the manual would soothe my pedant's itch Log in to reply |

The way the berths at Piccadilly works is different to other terminal stations. Normally a train entering an empty platform, the berth would step to the berth closest to the buffers, allowing the berth nearest the signal free for TDs to be interposed. This is fine because 99% of the time, as normally a train is terminating, departing with a new TD on the next working. At Piccadilly, when a train enters an empty platform, the berth is stepped into the berth closest to the signal. This is because there is a higher proportion of trains that arrive and depart Piccadilly with the same ID. When ACI handles interposing for divides, it will fill all available berths between where the TD is, and the signal berth. Unfortunately with Pic, the ACI see there are no berths available and so the warning is produced, since the inbound service has stepped into the berth at the signal. The way the berths step is how they are stepped in real life. There is however no ACI (or ARS) in real life and so the signaller is responsible for updating the TDs. I shall raise a ticket for a note to be placed in the manual that ACI does not handle divides at Piccadilly station for future reference Last edited: 30/07/2020 at 14:07 by y10g9 Reason: None given Log in to reply The following user said thank you: grahamj42 |
