I missed this earlier. AFAICR the only redirect on the SimSig website is from http to https.

I just upgraded my system and ran into the same issue. FWIW, I fixed it by installing Wine from here instead of from the Ubuntu repository: https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu

Checking for updates when you have no internet connection at all will still result in an "up to date" response. It can be quite confusing.
