Thank you for your patience, but I'm pleased to announce that this has now been uploaded (for approval). My thanks to everyone involved in helping me get this timetable produced.

Below are the timetable notes. Please read them as there are some quirks regarding ARS with divides and joins that need to be handled differently from the default released timetables. (in bold)

Cheers
Gareth

Three Bridges April 2012

This Timetable should be run in 2000-2013 Mode and has multi seed starts of midnight and 04:45 available. See in the description below for notes on chaining opportunities. It is also advised for correct regulation of ECS movements that Class 5 trains are run non-ARS.

My thanks go to Geoff Mayo for developing SimSig and the Three Bridges sim, my testers who I try and keep on their toes and they certainly enjoy reutrning the favour.

I would also like to thanks the John's (Meld & Postal) Mark C and Jamie for their help with the multiseed conversion and chaining.

Below is a full description of the notes for this timetable. Please read as there are some important notes regarding the ARS handling of joins / divides at various sim locations.

I hope you enjoy this very challenging timetable.

Gareth

Although thorough testing has been done on the TT, I will update this timetable to reflect any issues discovered after release. I therefore respectfully ask if you find any issues to either post them on the SimSig forum, or PM me. I will then fix them in due course and re-release in my own timescales. Please do not upload your own fixes to this TT; Others releasing fixes and updates, while well meaning, messes up my own version tracking and change log, and duplicates work I've potentially already done.

***********
Description
***********
This timetable for Three Bridges is based on a generic Thursday in April 2012. Timings used are from Open Train Times for passenger and ECS movements and Network Rail's WTT for the freight. The passenger stock used to form services are from the various diagrams / carriage working notices from the relevant operators.

Eventually, this timetable will be chainable to the following adjacent sims.

Oxted April 2012
Horsham April 2012
East Coastway April 2012
Victoria Central April 2012
London Bridge April 2012

Some may already chain but they are not guaranteed to have been checked and work faultlessly.
Please check the relevant forum threads and version history of the timetables for when chaining is possible.

The platforming is as true to life as possible however platforming clashes being rectified (during normal running).

Network Rail's Rules of the Route have also been used in the writing of this timetable in the form of dwell times. This involves the minimum turnarounds allowed for services dependant on their location and stock used and also times for stock to join / divide.

At Brighton:
12 min turnaround for 12 car services
7 min turnaround for 4/8 car services
10 min turnaround for Thaneslink services

At West Croydon; Caterham; Tattenham Corner; Redhill and Gatwick Airport dwells are between 3 and 6 minutes depending on the stock and length of the service.

At Purley, Caterham and Tattenham Corner 455 and or 456 stock forming more than 4 carriages have an additional 3 min hold to order to lock and unlock doors of the appropriate unit owing to short platforms.

Timetable rules have also been used; to prevent some services entering the sim before the service they are formed from has left the sim area. These rules will only have an impact in times of severe disruption.

  • 28-30 minutes are allowed for a returning Gatwick Express, from Victoria
  • 4 -6 minutes (stock dependant) are allowed for trains terminating at Horsham, Lewes, Sutton and Tonbridge
  • 23 and 65 minutes for Uckfield trains returning from London Bridge and Uckfield (turned short Crowborough) respectively.
  • 36 minutes for trains to Seaford
  • 39 minutes for trains to East Grinstead
  • 112 minutes for trains on WLL to East / South Croydon
  • 6 minutes for trains to Epsom Downs (turned short at Sutton)
  • 25 minutes for trains to Epsom
  • 28 minutes for Thameslink night services to London Bridge
  • 32 minutes for fast peak services to West Croydon from London Bridge

SimSig-nallers are advised that in times of disruption, turning services short of their destination is often necessary in order to provide an even service. The rules should give you a clue as to the associated next workings.

    *************************
    Joining & Dividing With ARS
    *************************

Due to the way ARS handles divides and join and the way I write my timetables it is currently necessary to interpose headcodes before departure of services.

Unlike the default timetables where a service divides but the original train stays as is (ie activity DR only) I have activities DR & N. This is so the timetable of the original service has the correct length and description for its remaining journey.

This however, confuses the ARS, so as well as interposing the new divided portion (usually rear), the original headcode must also be interposed at the front for ARS to pick up the second part of the timetable and set routes.

Eg 1H02SN1 enter from Victoria. Divides at Haywards Heath. DR 1F06 and N:1H02(SN2) both need to be interposed before departure.

I find it best upon arrival to put in the two new headcodes into the appropriate berths. Once TRTS is given in the above example re-interpose 1H02 again for departure to occur.

Similarly with joins the “through” part of the train must also have its headcode re interposed before departure upon TRTS being given.

This occurs at Purley, Redhill and Haywards Heath (some may also occur in peaks at Gatwick & Three Bridges)

    ************
    Other Hints & Tips
    ************
  • To ensure correct regulation and that ARS doesn't set some routes too early it is advised to run Class 5 trains (ECS) as non-ARS so you can hold them in suitable locations if running early.

  • Some trains are booked to share platforms. These will usually have the activity PS:*X**. ARS may not automatically set these depending if other trains have shared the platform previously and their headcode may be in the bufferstop berth. You may need to interpose the correct headcode or manually set the route.

  • ARS is a tool and is not foolproof, and some manual intervention may be needed at certain junctions to maintain correct running orders

  • The Sandite workings (3Sxx & 8Yxx) MUST follow their booked path to ensure all lines are treated.

This link doesn't work for me. Are others having the same problem? Had to go into 'Downloads' then 'Recent Uploads'.

Everything that you make will be useful - providing it's made of chocolate.

Should 5C04, which seeds in the Horsham Siding, have a departure time from there set? I'm using the 0000 start and it's calling up for being held at T1196 despite the description departure time being 0643.

I may have found this out by blindly routing it when I got the first phone call only to realise it didn't fit in the back road with 5J98...

There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

Thanks Splodge... Yes it should have a first location of horsham Sdg dep 06:43.

For the record, my tester noticed this, I'd even noticed this too, thought I'd changed it and yet somehow I let it slip it through the net

edit- I'd changed it for the 0445 start and missed doing the midnight. I've noticed something else with the multiseed so I'll correct and reupload shortly

Version 2.2 is now uploaded and approved, correcting the seeding of 5C04 in the 00:00 start and a minor error in the 04:45 start

Given that you've already added rules for a number of various off-sim turnarounds, would it also be worth considering doing the same for Worthing/West Worthing terminators on the West Coastway?
Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.

    Thanks Jan,

Yeah I seem to have missed those while amalgamating all of the old tt's together for Three Bridges. I'll add them to a future update.

    Cheers

Cheers EM, can you confirm whether the seed start was 0000 or 0445.

    Thanks
