First of all: Is it possible to go back to the old loader? I've only had problems with the new one. Second time this evening that the game is quitting because I either lost Internet connection, or now suddenly lost my license. The game didn't even auto save, and I had no possibility to save it myself.

Hope you can fix this issue, thanks!

There was a glitch with the website half an hour ago, might have been that. You can't go back to the old Loader, well, I'm sure somebody will say there is a way, but as time goes by you'll have more and more issues.

1) Have you searched for lostlicense.ssg on your PC? It should autosave on exit if it loses license - I don't recall exactly where it is saved but it does happen.
2) If you're having intermittent internet issue then have you considered locking your license to your machine? In the start new sim dialogue right click on the sim name and select "lock license to machine". This should stop the unreliability you're experiencing.

It's potentially an old problem – even the pre-V5 loaders (which only did an local offline license check) had the problem of rarely and randomly thinking the license had gone (when in fact it hadn't) and consequentially shutting itself down without warning. It seems that this problem has persisted even after the rewrite to the new licensing system, and when it happens the loader still seems to shut itself down immediately without the benefit of the newly introduced emergency save.
Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.

I use SimSig with Wine on my main laptop, with all the monitors, and also on this Windows Surface tablet, but just for playing around with developing my interface gateway client.

If I lock a licence to my laptop, that means I can't use it on the Surface, right?

Has anyone locked a licence to SimSig installed under Wine before - I don't want to be the first and find out it doesn't work :D

Also - and sorry for not just checking myself - is there an "Unlock licence" option to undo the action?

Finally - by locking the licence to the machine, this makes my SimSig installation entirely independent of the website, right - able to play offline? If you were hit by a nuclear strike I'd still be able to play?

Yes to everything, I think, with the caveat that you do need to occasionally let it re-verify licenses via the website (ie you can't go completely offline for a month and still expect to play). Obviously doing so would lose the flexibility of switching devices easily.

Cheers Geoff! Well, might just do that then. I don't really need to use the payware sims on the tablet anyway - Waterloo with ARS turned on is fine for generating lots of gateway messages
