Know it's been a while Peter but just wondering if edinburgh sim with borders railway added is still on the horizon at any point in the future? Or if we might see any timetables for edinburgh/cowlairs/c scotland post EGIP electrification?

There's a user-written 2020 timetable for CScot here: https://www.SimSig.co.uk/File/Details/2330 It's set in February, so before Covid service reductions.

I've been doing a little investigative work to see just how difficult it would be to write a modern timetable for Edinburgh... I think it's possible to achieve, but with a lot of "cheating" and trickery

I looked at the Christmas engineering timetables and decided it was not possible on current Edinburgh due to the need for east facing platforms.

I would also guess (and it is a pure guess) that any update on Edinburgh might only work sensibly as a new sim rather than era based update.

It's impossible to do any form of realistic modern TT for EDB with the layout as it is in sim. platforms missing (1, 20, 10 and now 5 & 6) along with all new platform lengths for some platforms and the PC1/2 also at the East not there anymore. oh and platform renumbering. The whole are along with some changes at HYM would need done.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the changes at Haymarket were just a 5th Platform (Platform 0) and electrification of all running lines to Waverley?

Well that's what it seems from a passenger point of view, I'm open to being corrected.

Also don't forget that Dunbar now has it's second platform back so that would have to be put in as well as all the EGIP electrification works etc....

Edinburgh is very different currently than the eras covered by the sim. While Peter has graciously added some more modern features, people really shouldn't be expecting a wholesale resignalling for free.

I might be in a minority, but I wouldn't expect an up-to-date Edinburgh sim to be free and would happily pay the going rate again for what I consider to be a great sim

EH522 & EH524 (US & UN respectively) need to be moved to West side of Haymarket East Junction. I've always believed that they were in the wrong place in sim to start with as there was a BR just before the ramp of platform 3. certainly several Youtube clips prove the same.

Platform 4 LOS is now fixed red and has been for several years and is on the end of platform 4, and there is also a fixed red on the EDB side of platform 2. EH905 GPLS is on the ramp of platform 3 heading west.

There's additional signals on the Forth Bridge, EY656 & EY654 are now two aspect R/G at the south side of Dalmeny loop. There's additional signals between Haymarket West Jn and Dalmeny junction in both directions. And there's been 7 panels since 2008 at least, all controlling different areas than what is in the sim at present. amongst everything else that's been mentioned.

It's a lot of work needing done. Would practically be a new sim.

I have limited information with which to work.
Also, this sim has given me more grief than any other and the idea of fiddling with it fills me with dread.
Maybe one day something will happen but work on the presumption that it won't, then you will get a surprise if it does.

And for those impatient who can't wait, there is a alternative available elsewhere with the current layout of Edinburgh station.

Any internet search engine should direct you in the right place.

If it was I am thinking you are referring to, This also is an inaccurate representation of the said area.

I have up to date signal info for Edinburgh (2020) and other areas in the sim but even then this will be redundant in the next year with the additions of stations at East Linton and Reston which will incorporate some form of remodeling of the signaling infrastructure. Hopefully in the future we can have modern Edinburgh. Plenty of operational scope round millerhill to keep you busy between engineers shunt movements and scotrail ECS moves

Peter would there be any scope for someone else to have a crack at a modernisation of the Edinburgh layout.

I would be willing to give it a go. This is one of my favour sims and would love a modern version.

Also putting my name in bag and my hand in my wallet for a complete new one if it were to be completed 100%.

I think that you also need to read this page from the FAQs in the Wiki. I expect that the desire to maintain the quality of the SimSig product would preclude your updating of an existing sim.

As I said above, who knows, currently struggling to find time to do the new sims I've been working on.
I'll probably be retiring in the next couple of years so who knows what spare time I'll have (don't ask Mrs B).
