I'd like to see numbers given for the F3 Options -> Failures sliders. We've already got this for F3 Options -> General for the simulation speed; I consider it would be useful to have something similar on the Failures tab. Rough mock-up provided below... Part of the problem I find currently with the F3 Failure sliders is that the first three slider have 10 'positions', the next two sliders have 100 'positions', then the last two sliders seem to have about 500 'positions'. When starting a new game (particularly currently, with the excellent WCML COVID timetables), I'm trying to use the same failure settings on each simulation. I find this particularly difficult to do so for the 'Failure time length' and 'Minimum failure time' (the last two sliders), given the apparent 500 'positions' available. Please? The numbers 4 and 5 above should probably instead be 40 and 50, given the position of the sliders Post has attachments. Log in to view them. As soon as you attach numbers to it, somebody will complain they got 9 failures instead of 10. SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

Out of interest Geoff, what do the sliders actually represent? Is each notch X% for instance or X failures per activation etc.

Some method of identifying the position that is sets for each slider would be quite useful. My next game will be a re-run of that which I'm currently playing and it would be advantageous if I could set the sliders in exactly the same positions. I can then get a direct comparison of the scoring.

Even if the probabilities work out so that you get one track circuit failure in each playthrough, and they last the exact same length, if one of them is in an out-of-the-way branch line and one is right across a busy junction, the difficulty is clearly very different, so comparing the scores doesn’t really tell you much. It seems to me that you’d need many—probably hundreds—of playthroughs on the same settings to glean any statistically meaningful results out of the scores, something that’s unlikely to happen given how long a single playthrough takes. Actually Bugsy raises a good point - even light failures are too frequent for my taste, maybe a "set this as default" tick box could be added?
