Hi,

For simulations with large areas / large timetables I note that the game can lock up for some seconds whilst an automatic or manually-initiated save is progressed.

Is there a way to speed this up e.g. by copying the serialized data into a separate thread for XML/ZIP/fwrite so that it's done effectively in the background?

Thanks
Jamie

With snapshots, can also introduce a slight amount of desynchronisation between chained sims, if those sims take a significantly different amount of time for saving – as the subsequent clock synchronisation will simply adjust the simulation clock backwards/forward to synchronise the time again across the chain, this means that all trains on that sim will correspondingly gain/lose that amount of time.
Granted though this'll probably only be really noticeable if you're doing very frequent snapshots (something like every five minutes or less), in which case the small pause itself caused by the saving as mentioned above will probably be the more annoying problem.

Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.
