In relation to the questions regarding the above title.

CSR - Cab Secure Radio was decommissioned in Scotland on the 19th July 2011.
NRN - National Radio Network was decommissioned on the 31st of December 2015, with the exception of the Far North Lines and West Highland Lines which moved onto next Gen RETB.

GSM-R was rolled out between 2007 and 2014. EMU services became live first, followed by the DMU fleet as coverage expanded.

What is the differences between the original RETB signalling and the next Gen RETB signalling?

As far as I'm aware, the newest RETB actually uses a form of GSM-R at its heart rather than NRN

Very broadly, next gen uses modern digital radio technology rather than the original 80s analogue stuff. Interlocking wise there are few changes.

Wasn't this a result of the remaining analogue channels being sold off? I recall something about that a fair few years back.

Yes, the two would go together.
'Analogue' licensed to operate on one frequency band with the new digital on another. I say 'analogue' as RETB was still sending 'data' but audio tone coded more like an old phone line modem.

They were returned to Ofcom at the end of 2015.
