I use a old Toshiba but recently stopped working and all I'll have for the near future is a Mac and I can't download SimSig onto it, is Mac support coming?

I very much doubt it, not only is a totally different operating system, but the newer ones are an entirely different CPU architecture.

There are MAC users are running SimSig, but via a Windows emulator of some sort.

Hopefully someone will recommend the least painful option for you.

Mac isn't an acronym and WINE is not an emulator!

Just tried it in Crossover 20, it sort of works, there are some issues with installing, had to install it twice to get it to work, and I don't seem to be able to quit due to an exception.

That might be your best bet.

I use Wineskin Winery, similar to Wine but I use it because Wine stopped working on my mac.

I use parallels ( it’s not free) works well with sim sig. I have 2 Macs so it’s fine also with multiple screens.

But crucially will not work with an M1 based Mac

If you have an Intel Mac you have multiple options. You can use bootcamp to run Windows natively (you'll need your own copy of Windows), or you can run Windows inside of MacOS by using Parallels or VMWare (I use Parallels with 3 monitors, works fine). There is also Wine.

With the new Apple Silicon M1 Macs your options are much more limited as they have a completely different architecture. No bootcamp, Parallels and VMWare won't work. I'm not sure about Wine.

I'm not sure what I'll do when I eventually have to upgrade to a new Mac.

Crossover 20 has M1 support, I'm guessing via Rosetta

Does chaining work? Because it didn't the only time I tried SimSig on my Mac under Wine.

I've not had a problem chaining on an Intel Mac under Wine for as long as I've used it, which must be three or four years now.

I’ve just started playing SimSig on a Mac through crossover and if you do it right and you get the NET Framework installed it’s great. The train list has to be the legacy one but asides from that it works extremely well and I’m delighted. Fairly sure there’s a discount code somewhere online for crossover. Very worthwhile.
