The article is around 4 years old, however the image immediately made me think "herd of cattle waiting to cross at Westbury barrow crossing"! I guess there's a prototype for everything.

Was this post triggered by today's incident at Nuneaton?

I'm always a bit queasy when I read about cows on the line after the Polmont accident in 1984 when 13 people died after a train struck a cow which had come through a damaged fence onto the line.

They changed the Rules after that accident to say that if there is a *large* animal on or near the line you stop the job. Six bells if necessary.

Is that genuine. I saw a photo earlier but didn't realise where it was or if it was real. How on earth did cows get on the line in a town centre.

Not without a Jersey I shouldn't think, otherwise they'd have been Fresian.
