Hi all

For all those that haven't heard of this yet, here's the BBC article.

From other forums, there was a yaw damper issue on the new 195s (I think) last week. Some GWR 800s stopped too.

This is apparently on the body shell. Another forum spoke of the jacking points.

When was the last time a whole class was withdrawn? For some reason, I thought of the Britannias.

The yaw damper issues are affecting CAF units (believe some 195s and 331s stopped currently, with 397s and Mk 5s also being monitored). (EDIT: Have now seen that Hitachi also had yaw damper issues last week...)

Bodyshell issues have seen the entire Hitachi 80x fleets stopped today. It appears the bulk of the affected sets are with GWR.

The wessex EMUs were temporarily withdrawn when they kept tripping track circuits on adjacent lines weren't they?

What are GWR doing about a lack of stock, just cancelling everything?

That's been the approach so far. Various rumours online about plans for other TOCs to provide cover where possible, stretching the 387/DMU/2+4 HST fleets, contacting charter operators etc. I don't think anything has been confirmed as yet.

Good excuse to bring back loco hauled workings with some Cl.47/4s & Cl.37/4s & such like. Far more reliable.

The entire 1992 Tube Stock fleet of London Underground was grounded following the 2003 Chancery Lane derailment.

This included the so-called 'Class 482s' on the Waterloo & City Line.

Following the 1998 Sandy derailment, WAGN loaned some 317s (ouch!) to GNER which (from memory) reached at least Leeds or York.

Looks like some LNER services are now running again. All the reports point to fatigue cracking which will be usage related so the impact is likely to be greater on the GWR sets as they came into service before the LNER sets.

I remember a Bobbie from Liverpool Street who said the 90s when tested after introduction out of Liverpool Street they blew the OLE circuits. (This was after they were built, not after they moved from the wcml)

Yes I remember how "far more reliable" 37/4s were versus 156s.

Yes I remember how "far more reliable" 37/4s were versus 156s.

There's a few Deltics out there looking for a good thrash up & down the ECML too. Quite apart from borrowing an A4 or two :-)

I suspect the coaches would be an issue more than the locos too, ie not being enough about

LNER had started running services from quite early on Saturday morning.
