In the screenshot you can see 6F51 travelling towards St.Catherines Jn.
After cancelling the route from signal D676, I also cancelled the ‘Slot Request’. Is this ok, or should I only cancel it once the train has left the area?
My thinking is that it should be left as a reminder because the signaller at Panel 2 will presumably have the Slot Request indicated on his panel somewhere and if I cancel it too early, he won’t.

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks Bugsy

I think that the slot release will normally cancel itself once the train has left the sim or reached the other end of the single line so manually cancelling it is probably not the best way to do things.

Thanks Dave.
I'll check that when I send the next train down there. I can't remember whether that is the case or not.

No it won't (as detailed in the manual) this slot doesn't auto cancel, and can even be given when the other slot has also been given. the only way to cancel the slot is manually.

To answer the original question, you can cancel the slot release once the train has passed the signal. In sim this won't have any negative effects, and in real life, you'd be stood next to the signaller working the St. Caths Panel, with the panel lights lit up red between you so he's unlikely to forget the train you've just offered him.

Just looked at the manual again and it just goes to show that you can't remember everything in the manual unless you read it multiple times or before every game
Not only that. The train left the sim and the slot didn't self-cancel, which is exactly what you have said.

As soon as the slot is granted, you can then set the route and then cancel the slot, dont need to wait for train to pass.
The other box has already granted you the slot to physically set the signal.

This is what I do anyway, otherwise I forget about this one

This doesn't work on D676. Trying to cancel the slot before the route has been cancelled produces the message "cancel route before cancelling the slot"

I get the same message on stockport with the Denton slot which I've now tried as a second test.
