Just been enjoying the sim when suddenly this box (see screenshot) popped up and the sim promptly shut down. I have subsequently re-started it from the last save, which fortunately was only a few minutes ago and everything appears to be running normally. Very odd. It might be nice to offer the user a chance to save their current session if this happens so progress isn't lost.

That's exactly what the automatically created LostLicense.ssg is for

This happened to me recently as well and I don't think the lost licence save was created (not really an issue with 10 minute snapshots). I think it was an internet blip that caused it as I'd only nipped downstairs to make a brew!

headshot119 in post 149831 said:That's exactly what the automatically created LostLicense.ssg is for :)That's great, but it's not advertised anywhere. SimSig doesn't tell you that it created a save file, and as far as I can see it's not in any manual pages. Can the message be modified to that end? (Formerly known as manadude2) Log in to reply |

We can look at whether the pop up message can guide the user a little further. Generally though I'd encourage people to run with 10 minutes snapshots turned on, like a couple of people in this thread already are, they guard against things we don't have any control over like power cuts, Windows deciding it's going to update even though you asked it not to, etc. "Passengers for New Lane, should be seated in the rear coach of the train " - Opinions are my own and not those of my employer Log in to reply |

It would be nice if there were a popup, or alert in the messages window, to warn that connection was lost and that there's a couple of minutes' grace before the sim will save and shut down? Thanks Jamie Jamie S (JAMS) Log in to reply The following user said thank you: MrSuttonmann |

Thought about this thread but couldn't find a LostLicense.ssg save file... oh well, back 15 minutes I go. Perhaps this is worthy of a Mantis ticket? Mantis 37775, though as you're using an OS which isn't officially supported I can't guarantee we can reliably fix / test the issue.

This has been happening to me for years and I have raised it on the forum with no satisfaction. It happens to me on 3 different PC desktops, 2 Windows laptop, 1 macbook running wine. if you allow any computer to sleep and then try and continue the sim after a few minutes you are kicked out without warning or any opportunity to save file or any automatic LostLicence save. There is no update to the SimSig Loader0.log file

If you allow it to sleep then it will inevitably lose connection to the server and with it the dynamic licence.

Any of mine that are locked to my PC stay open when my PC goes to sleep, but as Stephen Fulcher says above, any of my sims with a dynamic license close when my PC goes to sleep. Mine are all dynamic and I haven't experienced any problems lately, either – though I wonder whether tester/developer access also makes a difference here and maybe masks some issues? If your user account has the corresponding access level and you launch a sim in developer mode, the loader doesn't check out an individual sim license (even when one is available) and instead relies on the generic all-sims access given by your user account, which would imply that when waking up after a longer sleep, the loader wouldn't have to renegotiate the dynamic license with the server, either. By requested an unlock, do you mean the licence was locked to the machine and you requested it unlocked from the website?

After sleeping, SimSig should also create a save called 'woke up' (or similar), can those who are having problems confirm if that save is present?

GeoffM in post 150326 said:It was a few minutes. I started the sim at 00:00, went the the "My Licenses" page, clicked "Request unlock" and waited. I think it paused at around 6 or 7 minutes in but I didn't take note of the exact time. I did get a popup message, yes. It said "Licence has been removed from this machine" or to that effect. I clicked OK, the sim closed, and no save file was generated. If you really don't believe me @GeoffM I'm quite happy to screen record the process.
