Simsig closes with above error if my internet drops , then have to start again from last save.
I have paid for it, it's a real pain to have to set it all up again.

You would probably benefit from locking the license to your machine rather than using them dynamically.

From the Start a Simulation menu right click on a simulation to lock the license.

Not really fair hanging the pain onto SimSig for your flaky internet connection!

In terms of setting up again, if you mean sizing all of the windows etc. then Forum User Jabaru has produced some software that automates this process. The tool is discussed at some length here. The latest version can be downloaded here.

Disclaimer: This is unofficial software and there are no guarantees about fitness for purpose, safety etc. Users should proceed with caution. I have used the tool for many months with no problems but YMMV.

It is inasmuch as SimSig decided that whereas before, once your sim was on your PC and a license was assigned to it, it was yours to play without any need for a permanent and reliable internet connection, now you would generally require an extremely stable internet connection, not just to start the game or play it multiplayer, but to keep playing once you had started. A PC game just dropping out in the middle of play is annoying and it is SimSig's fault that it's decided that it's going to work like that. It has attempted to reduce that pain by saving the game for you before it just ends on you, but we know that doesn't always work very well. It certainly doesn't for me.

Now in fairness to SimSig it had its reasons, many people seemed to find the simple license manager difficult and it was very annoying transferring licenses around, particularly if you lost a computer. I myself use Wine and certain Wine updates used to have the effect of making SimSig think I was using a different PC, requiring a manual unlock from me and SimSig of all sims, which was not great. And it allows you to get round this issue by giving you the choice to lock individual licenses to individual machines. And that's good, but it doesn't seem to permanently lock them, it seems to require the occasional 'top-up' connection to the internet, otherwise for whatever reason it will stop working, as I and others have found out the hard way.

Myself I preferred things the way they were. I may be in a minority in that, but that doesn't make the downsides of SimSig's decision not SimSig's fault, it only makes them potentially justifiable. In the same way that the upsides of SimSig's decision may be to its credit.
