Hi, On the old Wikipedia 170397-170398 are described as 2-car (DMCL+DMSL) formation, but Rolling Stock Review 2019 describes them as having Motor Standard in the middle of a 3-car consist. Can anyone advise, were these ever shortened and lengthened, if so when please? Thanks Jamie Jamie S (JAMS) Log in to reply |

They're a mix within subclass (unless anythings changed recently). The TPE ones were 2 car, but XC ones are 3 car for instance. I dont think subclass defined the units formation but it's interior fittings and layout. The TPE ones went to Chiltern. XC still have theirs. "We don't stop camborne wednesdays" Log in to reply |

Anglia Railways when they ordered class 170's they got in the first batch 170/2 170201-208 which were 3 car units, then a couple of years later they ordered a second batch which were also 170/2's 170270-273 but were 2 car units Log in to reply |

Thanks all. Looks like I misread the Wiki entry, it does say 3 units, I saw the "2" in the "number of trainsets" column! Cheers Jamie Jamie S (JAMS) Log in to reply |

All those units that you mention are now in service with EMR. They came to them from TFW, is whose livery they ran, but with EMR branding. They are all now in EMR livery.
