Hello,

While running the Brighton sim today (latest loader version, default 2009 TT), I've noticed some strange behaviour when going to the F2 menu > right click a train > Timetable Options > Edit Timetable > Location List and then selecting a timing point further down the timetable and pressing Set Current/Next Location.

I had a train (think it was 5A33) start in Preson Park Up Sidings and pull into Preston Park P1, where it sits for a while. Due to some other disruption I needed the ECS to depart early and head for Brighton, so I did the above, selected Brighton and hit Set Current/Next Location, hoping he would then depart (the route was set), but instead it instantly formed its next working 1A33 at Preston Park. I tried reinstating its original timings by going to run to another timetable, selecting 5A33 and settings its current/next location as Brighton again - but same thing happened - it instantly formed 1A33 at Preston Park, waiting for its booked departure.

Another ECS move out of Lovers Walk has a stop built in at Copyhold Jn to let other services pass it by. I had platform 4 blocked by a delayed train at Haywards Heath, so after arriving at Copyhold Jn I wanted the train to continue, so I did the same thing, tried setting its next location as Balcome Tunnel Jn, but instead of moving off towards there, it dropped out completely and had no timetable assigned to it at all. I cannot remember the exact message it showed in the F2 train list unfortunately, but it didn't recognise itself as having any timetable anymore and thus didn't move.

Another train I tested was 5H51 which comes out of Lovers Walk and reverses at Preston Park before heading off to Hove and beyond. Entering at 05:00, it arrived at Preston Park platform 1 around 05:03 - 05:04, booked departure 05:18. As a test, around 05:11 (so plenty of time to change ends), I set the current/next location as Hove. Upon doing so, its estimated departure time moved from 05:18 to 05:27, then it finally departed at 05:27. I thought the train would depart as soon as it was ready, but instead doing this actually delayed it by quite a bit.

A few loader updates have come along since I last played a SimSig session properly, so I'm just wondering if anything has changed to cause this behaviour? Maybe there is a more efficient or different way of doing it now? I seem to remember this was the best way to step up a trains timetable when required (or to run a passenger service fast to a location due to late running etc). Am I doing something wrong after a small absence from SimSig?

Kind regards,

James

If you step up at Preston Park and the next location is Brighton then 5A33 will take up the activites that are due to happen at Brighton.

I think in this case when 5A33 has reversed at Preston Park, you need to abandon the timetable and shunt forward, on arrival in Brighton reinstate the TT which will then step up to 1A33.

Alternatively, you could alter the departure time in the timetable editor.
However, you would also need to edit the times of any other locations that the train stops at/passes after that and of course the arrival time at Brighton.

Everything that you make will be useful - providing it's made of chocolate.

If you amend the departure time the train will run forward at line speed after departing and pass/arrive earlier at the TT locations as far as the first stopping location without any need to amend those times.

Or just tick the passing time box?
