Class of service rules - vintage timetables. 20/07/2018 at 12:10 #110344

Hi all,

In vintage timetables (the sort that I like to write) I find it just slightly irritating that the "passenger delays" are implemented for both Class 3 and 4 parcels and Class 5 ECS.

I get completely that Class 3 means something entirely different these days so I am experimenting using the Class of Service tab to create a "rule" that defines Class 3 and 5 trains as "Freight" in the sense that it will enable them to both use goods lines and eliminate the irritation of a "wrong kind of food trolley" on a parcels train.

The rules look like this:-

Goods<=5%##[P
Goods<=3%##[P

Class 4 is slightly more problematical in the sense that it can apply to both a 75mph parcels train and a freightliner train. I don't see any way other than having to create a bespoke rule for each train like this for a parcel train

Goods<=4E20[P

In a big timetable this could create a significant workload.

Can anyone suggest anything better - perhaps knowing that Parcels trains were usually in the range of 4#00 to 4#30 and freightliners in the range 4#31 to 4#99 could help.

Anyone any comments please? I do appreciate that this sort of usage was not generally envisaged when the CoS rules tab was created.

Vince

Hi all,

Having no success whatsoever with this.

When creating the rule, for a Class 9 train should the class of service be "Passenger" since this would be the default for Simsig, or have I totally got the wrong end of the stick? I've tried both freight and Passenger without success with the goods line option - by the way, I know about ticking the "can use freight lines" I just want to do it another way.

Something like

Pass <=9%##[F

Sorry to bump this back up but can anyone help with the application off Class of Service rules?
I'm clearly missing something, possibly in the syntax but I've read and read again the wiki and something isn't clicking for me.

I'm experimenting with this on a vintage Exeter timetable modified my myself. One strange thing I am getting is light engines being assigned "passenger delays" despite having no entry for Class 0.

I've also created test timetables with a Class 9 FREIGHT train trying to make the "can use goods lines" work this way but it doesn't work for me.

Anyone help please?
