In the event of a train failure do they still protect the front end with detonators and given the reduction in crossover points meaning much longer wrong road runs, how is it done? Dave M. Log in to reply |

Dave The on-line Rule Books may help answer your question. Have a look at http://www.rgsonline.co.uk/Rule_Book/Rule%20Book%20Modules/M%20-%20Mishaps,%20Incidents%20and%20Extreme%20Weather/GERT8000-M1%20Iss%201.pdf, Section 4 for requirements for trains stopped by accident, fire or accidental division and http://www.rgsonline.co.uk/Rule_Book/Rule%20Book%20Modules/M%20-%20Mishaps,%20Incidents%20and%20Extreme%20Weather/GERT8000-M2%20Iss%202.pdf, Section 4 for train failures. Dave, If the line it has failed adjacent to is not bi-directional, and due to the time it takes to set up Pilotman Working, usually they won't bother trying to run wrong road. The quickest/easiest way is to assist the train with the next one. For this, "Assisstance Protection" is laid approx. 300 meters from the train in the direction the assisting train will travel. In this case to the rear, but not always. This protection comprises of 3 detonators placed approx 20 yards from one another. The driver of the failed train will wait there with a red flag, and inform the signaller he is doing/has done this. The signaller can then authorise the assisting train to pass the protecting signal at danger, and proceed to pick up the failed train's driver at the assistance protection. Once there, the failed train's driver will enter the assisting train's cab, and the assisting train will run over the detonators towards the failed train, and then the 2 drivers can sort out trying to shift the failure. This is explained properly in Rule Book Module M2 "Train stopped by train failure", which I found here: http://www.rgsonline.co.uk/Rule_Book/Rule%20Book%20Modules/M%20-%20Mishaps,%20Incidents%20and%20Extreme%20Weather/GERT8000-M2%20Iss%202.pdf Matt Log in to reply |

NCC1701 said:Postal, both your links are coming back as 404s.It's the way that the Forum embeds links, taking the opportunity to play with the link after it is pasted and I haven't yet fathomed how to embed the link while showing sensible text! Can it done with the current Forum set-up and if so could someone give me a Janet and John on how to do it. The two links I wanted to post are: http://www.rgsonline.co.uk/Rule_Book/Rule Book Modules/M - Mishaps, Incidents and Extreme Weather/GERT8000-M1 Iss 01.pdf http://www.rgsonline.co.uk/Rule_Book/Rule Book Modules/M - Mishaps, Incidents and Extreme Weather/GERT8000-M2 Iss 02.pdf which will probably need to be pasted in their entirety into your browser. In Forum mode these show as: http://www.rgsonline.co.uk/Rule_Book/Rule%20Book%20Modules/M%20-%20Mishaps,%20Incidents%20and%20Extreme%20Weather/GERT8000-M1%20Iss%201.pdf http://www.rgsonline.co.uk/Rule_Book/Rule%20Book%20Modules/M%20-%20Mishaps,%20Incidents%20and%20Extreme%20Weather/GERT8000-M2%20Iss%202.pdf Matt managed to post the second one with a working link so he is obviously more competent than I am. I'm guessing that the links have become corrupted in my original post as they go past a carriage return, so we'll see if the links work OK in this posting where I've put them on discrete lines. Edit - I've just tried and both links in Forum mode seem to be working. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply |

JG, I use the URL button (6th from right on top row above this box when replying), minor glitch is it always puts it a start of message so I do it first and then write around it.

Andy / Matt Thanks for the help. It's a good day because I've learnt something new. In regard to the use of the URL button, I don't know whether it is a Firefox / IE issue, but when I use it in Firefox, it is inserting the link where the cursor is in my message and not at the top. I suspect the issue with the URLs originally posted by Postal are to do with the commas immediately after the URL which the forum seems to assume is part of the URL itself. In-fact, having copied the link addresses and editing out the comma both links worked perfectly. I trust this helps. UKTM Thanks for proving that things work. In reality, the commas show when you go to the sites indicated by the links so why you should need to edit them out before pasting, I don't know. I think there are 2 different problems here; firstly, in a copy and paste operation the Forum software inserts escaped characters (like %20 for space) which may confuse things; secondly the Forum software appears to take the huff if a pasted URL carries over to a new line in a posting. Still now that I've been pointed to the URL button (note to self - RTFM), it shouldn't happen again.
