Hi,

In Stockport sim I was unlucky enough to have a Down stopper held at Woodsmoor for 40 minutes, which locked out the crossing inside that section (quite some way ahead).

In the real world, is there a rule that would allow MCB/AHB crossings to be set back to open - with the train prohibited from moving?

There might be some instructions allowing the LC to be put into local control which would allow the barriers to be raised, but you would need PC McGary (number 452) on duty to tell the motorists to disregard the stop signals at the crossing.

If it's an AHBC, it would have to be taken under local control, I think you could do it under TS9 reg 3.8 "A train required to stop in the section will stop within the crossing controls."

But by the time a crossing attendant has got down there, it might not be worth it?

You would wanna tell Ops Control about the problem in real life and possibly the civil police, as you're effectively shutting a public road.

You could put an AHBC onto local control, however a failed, or delayed train would not count as a "train required to stop in section" for the purposes of TS9 3.8.

If a sealed release is provided on a level crossing, it can be used to allow the barriers to be raised if a train has failed, and you have an assurance from the driver that no further moves will be made.

I was thinking about failed train, but the OP made it sound like the train hadn't failed.

If the train hasn't failed, do you just have to bite the bullet and leave the barriers down then? I can't see anything else under TS9 reg 3 that would apply.

Or are we invoking G1 1.1?

Presumably, an AHB with a station within the strike-in point would have a signal between the station and the crossing? If so, would replacing the signal (either cancelling the route or replacing an auto signal) cause the AHB to rise automatically?

In the real world, even if someone higher than me was to suggest an AHBC went onto local control to get the barriers up, by the time the police arrived to direct traffic, and someone arrived to put it onto local control the delayed train would probably be resolved.

If it's a failed train and there is a sealed release then TS1 3.7.1 applies. (But that needs the box to have a sealed release in the first place )

I'm sure someone can find one where the station is between the strike in point, and the AHBC, someone always finds an exception! Though generally speaking yes there will be a signal provided, and I believe once the route times out the crossing will time out and cycle to raised.

Presumably if the barriers were stuck down then the right type of food trolley may not be able to be delivered...…?
