Question on Sheffield, if a train is booked via Rotherham and instead goes Mainline to Sheffield, shouldn’t the train step up to its next working?

Eg I had 5B61 enter the sim and instead of routing it by Rotherham I sent it Mainline which it did queried but I told the driver to take the route. Upon arrival at Sheffield it should form 1B61 but it still thinks it’s 5B61 even tho it’s stopped at the signal starter for platform 6a at Sheffield

The driver even though I’ve manually told him to run to another TT ie run as 1B61 instead of its previous working of 5B61 and is actually at a stop on Platform 6A as explained above and is not due to depart for about 12 minutes insists on calling up saying awaiting signal.

Is the sim set up to allow alternate routes or not?

I’ve not told the driver at any time to abandon 5B61 timetable just told him upon arrival at Sheffield to run as 1B61 it’s next working.

If the driver phoned in to query the route, then no the simulation isn't set up to handle alternative routes, and it's behaved as I would expect in terms of the train not stepping up.

Did you tell the driver to skip the location, or to abandon timetable?

If Rotherham is in the timetable then the sim expects it to go that way. The sim does have alternative routing for some cases which I believe are described in the manual.

Rotherham was just a passing location so does that matter?

As to the driver querying route I just told him to skip location.

The manual states and I quote:

Trains booked Holmes Junction to Aldwarke Junction non-stop may travel via Masborough Jn or Rotherham Central. The latter will add a couple of minutes to the journey time.

So as the train was booked non stop via Rotherham, why did the driver query the route if it may travel via Masborough Jcn instead as a available alternative route?

Surely this makes it a bug?

Remember that some trains are booked via Rotherham to maintain driver's route knowledge should they need to be diverted that way. Therefore, any train booked via Rotherham should run that way unless an equipment failure or other obstruction prevents it.

Ah well, you didn't state that. I shall query the powers-that-be, notwithstanding Steamer's comment.

Maybe but the manual says otherwise...

I read the manual as :-

0Z99
Aldwarke Junction
Homes Junction

Fine to take either route

0Z99
Aldwarke Junction
Rotherham Central
Homes Junction

Will only accept route via Rotherham

If a train is booked to pass Rotherham Central it shouldn't be an issue, only if it needs to stop. That said not everytging non northern signs Holmes chord so would need to go via Tinsley and Woodburn.
