A curious thing... Y245BR has failed in advance of Skelton Junction DFL path, and is showing unlit... but ONLY in the Off position!

Not sure if this is a sim-specific funny or core?

A mechanical banner can fail if it doesn't "prove" in the correct position; an electronic one can fail if not enough lamps are lit.

Banner repeaters can be Mechanical, Fibre-optic or LED. It is very common for Fibre-optic and LED types to not be working in one position, i.e not lit. Mechanical Banners would have one back light, so if unlit would not be seen at night. Whereas Fibre Optic and LEDs if unlit cannot be seen at all. If I remember correctly, Fibre Optic Banners have two lamps, one for each position of the Banner, so if one lamp goes, indication is lost for the position that lamp is for.

Yes, banner repeaters can fail in SimSig :)

I'll also add that the signal reading onto the banner repeater will usually only prove the banner's On aspect is lit before clearing. Banner Off aspects are generally not proved by the signal in rear.

I won't say all fibre banners everywhere as someone will undoubtedly know somewhere that isn't, but generally fibre banners have TWO lamps for the on position and one lamp for the off position.

If one of the on lamps fails then a filament failure will be indicated for the Technician to intervene.

This is done because an unlit banner in the on position will hold the signal in rear at danger, whereas it doesn't matter if it isn't lit if it was supposed to be off.
