Feature request - ability to request specific slots at Newton Heath 09/09/2020 at 22:59 #131453 | |

This is a rather niche request, but is it possible to add the ability for the signaller to request a specific slot at Newton Heath (NH1 or NH2)? In this case, a points failure has meant I am unable to access NH1, and as the slots are assigned automatically by the sim I am unable to change the selection... In reality the signaller would've discussed the situation with the yard manager and requested access to NH2. Workaround for this situation was to send it into NH3... Post has attachments. A loss on NH2 would mean a heck of a run round the depot with two reversing moves in headshunts. NH3 vice N1 would be similar, IF the train was fuelled after leaving its stable. Thanks Jamie Jamie S (JAMS) Log in to reply |

As the developer, I don't intend on making any changes. To extend on Jamie's point. if you access from a different entry point, various places become either very easy or difficult to get to. As I see it (And others are welcome to comment), I would view requesting a specific slot as telling Newton Heath where you as the signaller wants to put the train, and not Newton Heath Depot telling the signaller where they'd like the train. I believe its possible, (but not currently in a position to try this), to phone Newton Heath TMD, and cancel the slot request for the train, and re-request. In reality, though, in the midst of disruption to varying degrees, there'd be a discussion and some negotiation! The depot might very much like the train to arrive via a particular route, but I'm sure they'd relent if that meant their train would have to sit blocking the main line for an hour or two because of a points failure - quite apart from Control's inevitable involvement, the consequences of a unit (and all subsequent units) arriving on depot a couple of hours late on nights would far outweigh the 'cost' of the extra shunts that'd be necessary to get them in via another route. I've known it happen (occasionally) at our place just to permit a parallel move with another train in the station throat! In normal working, of course, it's right that the shunter dictates which way the train comes in, but I do think there'd be some value to an option to ask for a specific slot during disruption (maybe, as a form of penalty, with a significant delay in the slot being granted whilst the shunter makes the necessary arrangements?).
