From the pages of Wiktionary 'The study of railways, or a general interest in them as a hobby, is sometimes known as ferroequinology (literally, "study of iron horses"but especially locomotives.' Not signalling but Class 25's used to be called Rodentus (or Raticus) Mechanicus (Mechanical Rodents (Rats)) and there was another to do with Incendica and Class 27s propensity to catch fire between Dundee and Edinburgh but I can't recall the full expression.
