Rashan, what do you mean by the SimSig launcher? And what is the error message that you get?

The error says Component File search.ocx' or one of its depdencies not registered: a file is missing or invalid

Just to advise the "SimSig Launcher" is not an official SimSig product and we can't provide any technical support or any validation. Please read the small print on the "User Contributed" home page. "SimSig is not responsible for the content of the files uploaded but accepts contributions in good faith. Downloaders do so at their own risk and should have appropriate virus protection software installed." However as it seems to be broken I will withdraw it pro-temp till the author gets back to us. If you need an OCX file, it usually means MS Visual Basic 6 Redistributable has to be installed. I have not tried the launcher if this is the case.

Windows and Internet Explorer (but also Firefox) are written in C++ so they don't need the VB6 library to be installed.

VB6 should be taken out back and shot! Was any consideration given to writing this in one of the .Net languages? VB.Net, C# and many other dialects are available and will work out the box on most Windows setups. Log in to reply |

.NET does not work out of the box on Windows XP. This is new in Vista/7 (don't know which of both). Usually the installer of the program also installs .NET or VB6 if needed, but some don't. And, why not writing in .NET? It is much easier to program than Win32. AJP in games Log in to reply |

Hi guys, I've done some digging around and I'll have to include the ocx files in the installation package. If you could uninstall the version you have installed now, I'll do a few updates and then re-submit the next release in a few days. Sorry, I didn't see this thread earlier. Cheers, James. Actually Windows 7 came with 3.5, as does Vista, there was never a 3.0. I'd be happy to do a launcher with 3.5 when I get some spare time. Log in to reply |

There has been a 3.0. That was Visual Studio 2008. 2005 is 2.0 and 2010 is 3.5.

Ah, there was a .Net 3.0, however it didn't coincide with a C# release nor a Visual Studio release so I missed it. Visual Studio 2008 is 3.5 and 2010 is 4.0 however. Log in to reply |

Hi guys, the problem has now been fixed. I just need to edit the included Help file, and start a Changelog, and then we're go for release 0.5.0. Note that SimSig Launcher is currently an ALPHA release, and as such, some features may not function at all or as expected; the interface may change and new features may be added as and when required. Please help support by providing feedback directly to me, and if you feel other users may benefit from your feedback, please also post on the forum. Thank you.
