WARNING The Server IP has Changed Effective 12/07/11 Many of us have been using Skype to communicate in multiplayer for the last couple of months (actually it's been longer than that) The regular users of skype have noticed some key problems with it: 1) The way Skype assigns a host to the call is erratic and doesn't always choose the best host. 2) You have to manually add all clients to the call, this is tedious and only the host can do it. 3) We tend to have a lot of banter on skype which can be a pain when a sim related message needs to be heard.* Therefore to overcome the above problems I have rented a 20 slot Team speak 3 server for use by anyone who uses Simsig. You will need to download the free Teamspeak 3 client from the TS3 website. Once you have that you can join the server. IP ts3.alpha-networks.co.uk Port 10028 Please use either your forum name, or your real name for the TS3 name as it makes more sense. I have created various channels on there for the different sims but I welcome any feedback below for anything else you may wish for me to add. The server runs 24 hours a day, and can be used by anyone at anytime. Other hosts are free to use it just use the appropriate channel for the sim you are hosting. You can also set up whisper lists to target specific channels and or users which is handy when you need to get a sim message across. Thanks for reading and I hope to see you on there. Please note this service is not officially endorsed by SimSig. Unfortuantely TeamSpeak 3 lacked the "Channel Commander" feature last time a checked. This was part of TeamSpeak 2 and was very useful as you could hold down another key and only other people set to "Channel Commander" could hear you.

Firstly, this thread is very much public (people don't need to be users here to view the TeamSpeak 3 connection details)...... headshot119 said: 1) The way Skype assigns a host to the call is erratic and doesn't always choose the best host.Surely the host who starts the call is assigned as the host and the next person added to the call then becomes the host if/when the original host goes? headshot119 said: 2) You have to manually add all clients to the call, this is tedious and only the host can do it.Never noticed this problem. In-fact I even remember previous times when I successfully added others to a group call, even when I wasn't the host. headshot119 said: 3) We tend to have a lot of banter on skype which can be a pain when a sim related message needs to be heard.Would I be right in thinking that TS3 allows for whoever has the right privileges to assign certain participants as priority users so that say I was on a workstation and someone spectating was also in TS3, if the spectator was speaking and I need to speak to the multiplayer host regarding an important message relating to the simulation then my voice would get priority over the spectators voice? headshot119 said: 20 slot:: ? headshot119 said: Please use either your forum name, or your real name for the TS3 name as it makes more sense. Not sure if using real name is totally helpful as, say you didn't know it before, if I used my real name then you wouldn't know who I was until I introduced myself. This then may present a problem if my player name was forgotten. I have however noticed that TS3 does allow for changing your display name before joining a server so there is plenty of chance to change it before joining so it is known who is who. headshot119 said: I have created various channels on there for the different sims but I welcome any feedback below for anything else you may wish for me to add. Then again, perhaps adding a joint channel for Drain and Royston just in-case. And Stafford is also senseless due its bug which makes normal multiplay almost impossible.

From the feedback I've had it seems to be working pretty well. Some things to just clarify. The server is 20 slots, that means 20 people can connect at once. We never had more than 11 people in a skype call at once, so 20 is overkill at the moment. Anyone who is a server admin can assign someone as a priority speaker (PS), when a PS speaks anyone who is non PS is cut off. You can also you use whisper lists to target your voice at certain channels, players, sub channels ect. Please feel free to join at any point. It's open 24/7, and if anyone needs any help feel free to PM me. Have you enabled the channel commander feature then? For chains this will be very useful as then anyone can hear you regardless of what channel they are in if they have also set channel commander on.

Channel commander is enabled. When TRC666 hosted Sheffield last nigh I assigned him as the Sheffield sub channel commander, and as the priority speaker.

Has this changed from TS2 then? Back then anyone could set themselves to channel commander and so here all conversations on the "command channel" this would be useful for people that wanted to listen in but is open to abuse by people chatting on the command channel.

As I've never used TS2 Zoe I don't know how the Channel Commander feature worked. In TS3 I just use the whisper lists to speak to certain people.

The channel commander feature would turn the green circle next to your name red and if you were a channel commander, you could set a key so that if you are a channel commander and hold down that key, all other channel commanders will hear you.

You set a key in your whisper list, right control is popular one, you set it groups - channel commander - all. I find this a very useful feature as it allows you to effectively have a "command channel" which anyone that needs to can listen in on and talk on by pressing their key.. You may also want to set a hotkey to toggle commander channel status for yourself so you can easily mute the command channel coversation if you don't want to hear it.

Please note: Due to payment issues with paypal it is possible the server may go down after May 14th for an as yet underdetminded amount of time. This is unfortunately being caused by my bank freezing me from funding my paypal account. I'll keep you all up to date.
