Is the last seen line a thing signallers have in real life? Or is it a "god" feature, like seeing the train's current status? (moving at 40mph etc)

Train's current speed could easily be provided by using GPS trackers

I'm guessing you haven't played Manchester Piccadilly on the Longsight panel then. Or don't care which line you send trains to Heaton Norris. :)
I'm guessing you can see which licences I hold and possibly every time I've started a game ;)

The "most recent" line doesn't help on the sims I've got, and I quite like stripping visible data to the essentials!

(named for the one in Tasmania, not in Russia)

Well, often they have paper simplifiers so it's not an issue. I think even TRUST will show the full schedule of a live train - though I'm aware there are a number of queries that yield slightly different results. But SimSig shows the next locations - useful if a train has a lot of location entries.

The MRU feature was introduced because of Man Picc and the lack of visibility of the scheduled line code at Slade Lane once the train has left Piccadilly. Granted, if you have ARS on then it's not so much an issue as ARS propagates the codes along.

Though that said, between Piccadilly and Slade Lane is a free-for-all where line/route codes (other than fast/slow/Styal at Slade Lane) are irrelevant. I've been given some routes that on the face of it are utterly bizarre, but are intended to keep things moving in the bigger picture. In particular moves from 13 that ultimately end up on the mains at Slade Lane can get almost any route from 13, and even driving the same train two or three days in a row is likely to yield different routes depending on how everything else is flowing.

Also moves to/from Longsight are all pathed via the UDG but again, signallers can and do give you absolutely any route, especially in the small hours when possessions can have all sorts of impacts.

There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.
