From about mid-afternoon yesterday I was unable to connect to the SimSig server.
Everything is ok this morning but I was wondering if anybody else had this problem or whether it was just me.

Everything that you make will be useful - providing it's made of chocolate.

Same here. I would call this the longest day debacle. What I am now left wondering is would I have been better off yesterday being in the position of having locked all of my owned sims to this machine. Would I have been able to play as clearly not having them locked and not being able to make contact with the server I was totally left floundering.

Everyone would have been unable to connect to server and/or access the site for the majority of yesterday. Nothing wrong on your part.

Ah. I see what you are saying. It was beyond SimSig's control.

I resorted to listening to several scientific podcasts on the BBC website as well as doing useful things like cleaning windows.

Network Issues outage
Mon 21 Jun 2021 1:45 p.m. BST - Tue 22 Jun 2021 12:56 a.m. BST (Resolved)
Affected services:
Network Dunsfold: We are investigating reports of Network Connectivity issues.
Update: 21 Jun 2021, 2:52 p.m.

We have identified a problem which is upstream of our Dunsfold Datacenter, that is currently affecting connectivity, we have raised this as a fault with our circuit providers, and are in communication with them.

Please note, this issue also affects our Phone Lines, we are working to restore access as soon as possible.

Update: 21 Jun 2021, 4:22 p.m.

We are still continuing to work with our provider to get this issue resolved as soon as possible.

Update: 21 Jun 2021, 5:22 p.m.

Our provider has informed us that they have located a fault within the fibre infrastructure and a BT OpenReach team has been sent to take corrective action on the fault.

The BT Openreach Team have run diagnostics and have located the faults upstream of our network. They are currently carrying out tests to determine the exact location and nature of the faults.

Update: 21 Jun 2021, 10:05 p.m.

The BT Openreach team have identified the fault with the fibre cable in the London area. Their major incident team are working to restore service as a priority.

Passed the age to be doing 'Spoon Feeding' !!!

I was able to play Portsmouth which is locked to my machine.

My question about locking sims to my laptop is still open though. Could someone confirm or deny that having sims locked to the individuals laptop would have allowed play to continue during the outage we got.

I'm sorry northroad, I was trying to say exactly that having a sim locked to my laptop did allow play to continue during the outage we got

Not difficult to verify for yourself. Just lock the licences and disconnect from the internet.

A few months ago we had an outage where locked sims were also unavailable, but given TUT was able to play a locked sim, that doesn't appear to have been the case this time. Also, loader 5.13 should have solved the problem that occurred with locked sims back in December.

Yes it will. Essentially the only reason to lock a licence is to play while disconnected from the server, albeit normally due to having no Internet, rather than an outage.

I've emboldened the relevant part of the quote I want to reply to, as I always manage to mess up trimming quotes while on my phone.

When I went to bed last night, we had no idea when things would be resumed, I've been in work all day today, and Geoff was fast asleep (He's in America) while service was restored. We'd arranged a posting last night to put up once things got back to normal. We really didn't expect it to go on for so long or we'd have got the posting in sooner.

Once again we can only apologise for this the outage, but it was outside of our control.

In the 'Start a new simulation' menu you have the list of sims.

Right click on one you wish to lock and the option's right there, second from the top.
