Hey!

Forgive me if this has been brought up before (I did look before posting this thread).

Pontypridd has 3 active platforms as of December 2014. Platform 1 is not featured in the simulation but is used quite frequently nowadays.

Does the Cardiff Valley simulation continue to receive updates from the developer? Thanks! Love the intricacies of the real-life railway and associates token systems which are captured in this simulation.

Cardiff Valleys still gets updates for any bug fixes etc.

The simulation (Along with all of the South Wales series) is based before CARS (Cardiff Area Resignalling Scheme) which is why Pontypridd platform 1 isn't included.

Don't forget that SimSig supports sim eras. It would be nice if these were put to use a little more than beyond the initial release of a sim. Once a sim has been released, there never seems to be any additions of eras - at least not that I've ever seen in 10 years or more.

Please refer to the FAQ:

Quote:
Updates
Q. I purchased a license for a simulation and I know that area has been resignalled since then, or had some changes made to it. Can I get a free update?

A. If you bought a 2016 model T Ford, would you expect the manufacturer to give you a free update to the 2019 model?! Generally no, and this applies even more so to donationware simulations. Resignalling is often a complete re-write due to the number of changes. Updates (such as one or two new signals or crossovers) may or may not be included in an update but is not by any means a guarantee.

You can only go so far adding eras, Headshot has always maintained that any CARS era for Cardiff would have to be a separate sim.

To be fair to Pedro it would have been much easier to redo Manchester North as a new sim, instead of adding the extension and era.

(EDIT) Central Scotland and Cowlairs were updated as the EGIP scheme progressed, and King's Cross gained a 2013-2017 era.

But none of these constituted an entire resignalling where every signal changed identity or was moved.

Central Scotland I think you mean :)

I was thinking about it earlier, and all of the following have had eras added to them post release :-

Manchester Piccadilly (Ordsall Chord)
Manchester North (Ordsall Chord, and simulation extended to include the entire Oldham loop / Rochdale)
Leeds East West (Platform 0)
Exeter (Various newly opened stations)
Kings Cross (The flyover and platform 0 among other things)
North East Wales (Redoubling towards Saltney Junction, it doesn't look like a lot in the sim but trust me in the back end it was)
Marylebone (Various new eras / changes to match what actually went ahead)

There could well be others as well that I haven't thought of.

I wrote a post here as to why the four track Filton Bank (Take 2 the modern version) isn't planned to be included on the Bristol PSB simulation. The same reasons carry through to why CARS (Cardiff Area ReSignalling) isn't included in an era in any of the South Wales simulations, way too much changes for it to be sensible, especially things like geographical limits. For example what was Bargoed, Ystrad Mynach, and Heath Junction on the Valleys simulation, become part of what was the Taff panel on the Cardiff simulation, which in turn loses part of it's area to the Vale of Glamorgan workstation which includes all of the VOG simulation and more.

Yes, it has Central in the name and it's near Glasgow ;)

There's too much happening on some parts of the network. If the railways were only being remodelled every few decades, it'd be easier to keep up with it, but King's Cross has seen major changes about every year until it got resignalled lately and to a lesser extent this is currently happening in the Exeter area as well.

I think sims that remained representative for a longer period of time are the exception rather than the rule, and mostly constitute quiet or small areas.
