In my 1991 game, I’ve just had a TC failure at the Newark Flat Crossing. IRL, or in the sim for that matter, would a signaller be allowed to talk a train past the signal at danger? After all, I can’t see any danger in doing so. However, I suspect not, but thought that I would ask anyway. I've paused the game until I get an answer Edit: Now that's interesting. I thought that I would give it a try with 1E01 and it traversed the crossing and carried on towards Newark Station. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. You would need to examine the line to determine that it was a track circuit failure and not part of a train left behind.

Yes you can talk trains past signals at danger on the up and down main over the flat crossing. As it is a fixed crossing, with no moving point work, there are no rules that prohibit you from doing so. As Stephen Fulcher says, standard rules would apply for talking past signals at danger and there are no signal box special instructions for this situation.

I must admit that I'd feel happier if both protecting signals on the other line were collared during this move. I know that TORR is supposed to be immune against a simple "bobbing" track circuit (I forget if Donny has TORR), but I'd hate to find the route releasing without warning. Log in to reply |

Reminders on conflicting routes would absolutely be required in order to prevent you from signalling a conflicting move during your S5 but not to prevent points moving, there's nothing movable there. The Rule Book does actually specifically prohibit calling a route over a failed track circuit, although I suppose you're locked up anyway. Is the problem more that: Your examining Nottingham - Lincoln has to pass at red and so cannot have the route set over the crossing It might clear the short circuit (swarf in IBJ etc) That could allow ARS clear the ECML Then the examining train proceeds onto the TC for real and reverts the ECML Log in to reply |

Collaring the signals over the crossing from all directions would prevent ARS setting a route if the route unexpectedly released.
