Upon starting a new game in the modern era, the sim has given me a TSR at Willington(UM) of 545 mph. Typo, or HS2 phase 3 prep?...

Thanks for the update of a great sim!

Swadlincote in the UP:

Release frame (No. 2), switch the FPL (5), change points (6), replace FPL (5), Change points (7), pull of shunt signal (9).

Belper in the Up:

Release frame (1), Change No 2 points (2), Pull off PLS (5). Train will then call for authority to proceed, allow such authourisation once happy the GF is set, then train will head into the Belper CE, then drop off.

s
I don't suppose the manual could be updated to add the above information on how to set the various routes that the GF's in the simulation require as well as explain how to set routes towards Drakelow PS for Nadins Siding please?

The only reference in the forum state "Not the Swadlincote GFs? One for Sdg and then U/D for the mains +over" which isn't helpful.

I'll add a little more detail, however the operation of ground frames in general is described here: https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Wiki/Show?page=usertrack%3Assrun%3Alever_frames

The exact operation of each frame is generally left as an exercise for the reader, as it would be impractical to write out a step-by-step guide for every move at every frame.

EDIT: manual now updated with a general note in the 'features' section and some more detail on some locations

Still getting issues with penalties for wrong platforms. If you ring Derby Supervisor to change to a numbered platform, e.g. 1, 2, 4, 6 then the train will stop at the near end (e.g. 1A Down or 6B Up) and you get a "wrong platform" penalty.

However, even if you specify the near end, as in the attached with 1F42 stopped in 2A as advised, I still got a "wrong platform" penalty!

Thanks
Jamie

Just to confirm you mean in the performance analysis it's noted an incorrect or opposite platform even though you've made the call ahead of time?

Hi Karl,

Yes, it's showing up both in F2 as "Platform alteration" (despite booked) and the penalties are clocking up in F5.

Just got another one for the bay platform 5 as well!

I'm not sure if this is strictly a Derby bug or me just breaking Simsig in general.

I was playing Derby and had a points failure meaning no access from 425/427 towards Spondon so I was reversing everything into Chaddesden and through the station proper. By the time it got to 3P08 and 0T12, I had trains everywhere and very little space. I think I even had a second points failure by that time meaning no trains could leave P5/6.

To get 0T12 to move around the trapped 1M65, I had to make it 'manually reverse' to Chaddesden (because for some reason, the original shunt via 473 vanished and it 'started' from the second part) and then manually reversed it into P4 where 3P08 was waiting, but it just sat there saying "3P08 is in front of me" even though it was meant to couple to it. The F2 box showed it thinking it was still in P6.

In the end, I removed the train but I've replicated it and it happened again. Save attached.

It's a bug, I've encountered it too many times to count on the 1987 TT where you have plenty of loco changes, is certainly annoying as it takes a liberal use of having to tell the trains to shunt forward and hope they join before they finally join so yes it's def a sim bug where joins don't always work as timetabled.

It appears you reversed 0T12 somewhere other than the booked Derby (424) as it is still looking for that location, not Derby station.

In your saved game, 0T12 is still wanting to go to signal 424 first. That's where it was meant to shunt via, so it refuses to couple up before it's done that.
Also, if you sent 0T12 via Chaddesden, that would mean it's on the wrong side of 3P08. In this case, it looks like that would end up fine, but that would not always be the case, for realism purposes.

To move things forward without deleting any trains, go to the F2 screen, right click on 0T12, select "timetable options" then the "edit timetable" option, click on the Derby DGL entry and then click on the "Current/Next location" button. This resets the internal workings of SimSig with the timetable side of the house now believing that the train is at the correct location to make the join. Ran your saved game, edited the TT and the join started immediately.

The sim won't let me apply a reminder appliance on the emergency replacement buttons for signal 294 and EN10 (DN/UP Stoke, protecting signals for Egginton AHB).

I can apply a RA fine on other emergency replacement buttons.

Thanks

Ah yes, it's an artifact of how the "special" emergency replacement switches have been implemented which allows the area to expand and contract when chained to Staffordshire.

I'll log a Mantis ticket shortly to see if we can improve things.

At Mantle Lane, the Down Goods Loop signal ML2 cannot be interposed against, however the TD has stepped up to the signal.
I was just wondering which is correct - I would expect to be able to interpose against a signal if the TD steps to it.

Thanks James - in fact, this might seem to the the case with all of the shunt signals (except ML11, ML31 & ML223) in the Mantle Lane area.

Just checking but at Branston when you have a train at signal 95 which is routed via Birmingham Curve towards Drakelow, is it meant to display a shunt aspect?

It might just be a senior moment but I would have thought the driver would get a normal signal aspect there?

Can't show a main aspect as route is onto non-TCed line, has to be proceed on line of sight.

Hi,

I have had a call from Trent PSB asking if they can send me a passenger train 1/2 E. Seems something of a misuse of the phone system!

Thanks
Jamie

Wrote up a feature request for that (Mantis 38554), although the thing is that while a call for a train running half a minute early is certainly a bit extreme, in other cases two or three minutes of earliness can already be enough to suddenly have trains running in the wrong order. In real life the neighbouring box would certainly take that into account when deciding whether to call or not, but it might be not that easy to teach the neighbouring sim-signaller to behave in the same way.

Post-scriptum: It turns out that the cut-off for phone calls from the neighbouring box can already be adjusted, and the low value for Clay Cross was chosen precisely because of the "trains running out of their booked order" problem. So you'll probably have to live with that kind of phone system "misuse".

Thanks Jan,

I wonder if the core code could intelligently decide if early trains wouldn’t generate a call if the early train would NOT appear before any other candidate trains?

Cheers

Bug: once a train is signalled out of Spondon Accordis sidings, I am no longer able to raise the Spondon LC gates. In addition, I am no longer able to set a route from Courtaulds to Accordis, and get the message "Subroute locked in opposite direction". I suspect that this is due to the hidden signal SPDN01 (located before signal 408 but not shown on the panel) not automatically clearing, and therefore locking in a route that I am unable to clear. I have attached a save where this bug can be reproduced.
